Reception at 108 Cannon Street

Front and Centre in Cannon Street:

On Friday 15th February we installed Iris Magic by Hugo Urrutia-Garcia into the reception of 108 Cannon Street.

This building, managed by Helix Properties, has an intriguing space in its reception which is the ideal display case for a very large work of art or sculpture.  Art in Offices is particularly proud of this project because we completed it in a very short time frame for the client, resulting in a happy landlord, happy property manager and happy building manager.

The Ingredients for Wellness at Work

Art is now headlining the agenda when it comes to creating new work environments and refurbishing the old.  At the forthcoming World Healthcare Congress, Europe, which takes place in Manchester in March, the agenda will be focussed on arts, health and social change throughout’ explains Clive Parkinson, head of Arts for Health at Manchester Metropolitan University, the UK’s longest established arts and health unit.

Later in the year at the Facilities Show in London's ExCel, there will be a section dedicated to wellness, which will include such stands as ergonomic furniture providers and providers of office perks (like cakes and gym memberships).  The need for relaxing office environments which nurture staff is now well established.  HR and sustainability committees are commonly focussed on reducing their carbon footprint and recycling (bravo to those of you who are caring for the environment at work), to win sustainability awards and achieve
certain status.  But the most avant-garde offices are now aiming to win an award which focuses on the wellness of their staff.  The criteria include things like natural light, private areas, flexible working schemes, snooze pods and access to open space, as well as the decoration and art on the walls.

Delving into art and culture is now frequently being encouraged by offices and doctors - who are now being encouraged to prescribe art to combat social
illness, such as loneliness, stress, and anxiety. A survey by Aesop revealed that "Two thirds of GPs believe that arts engagement helps prevent ill health.  Of 1,000 doctors surveyed by arts and health charity Aesop, 66% agreed that ‘public engagement with the arts can make a significant contribution to the prevention agenda (i.e. preventing ill health among the public).’

Art is only part of the puzzle though.  Creating the ideal environment at work also has much to do with how staff are treated by bosses and colleagues, how easy it is to fit their job into their commitments at home, the structure of rewards and advancement, and equality between genders.  If this article has inspired you at all, Art in Offices are here to help you achieve your office wellness aspirations.

Artist Focus

Laura Benetton

Laura is originally from Italy, but now lives and works in Wimbledon.
Laura is a prolific artist in every sense of the word.  Although, her work is always in short supply as she's in such high demand.  A recent roster of her achievements include winning a residency in China, a solo exhibition in Italy and her work was selected to be auctioned off alongside the likes of Tracey Emin for the Terrence Higgins X Christie's auction on the 15th April.  Phew!

If you're considering starting a corporate or personal art collection Laura is one to purchase now.  She also has great value on Instagram with almost 13K followers.  We love our Italian butterfly.
