Killed For Taking Part In 'Everybody's Fight'

Viola Liuzzo, Detroit mother of five and Unitarian Universalist, was shot in the head by the KKK after shuttling local residents back to Selma after the March in 1965. Gwen’s Girls offers holistic, gender-specific programs, education and experiences for Allegheny County’s at-risk children and young adults. More importantly, they offer a safe space where girls and young women can form relationships, build self-esteem and gain resiliency.

Vanderbilt's Alternative Spring Break group is back in our midst, staying at the U House March 2-9th and volunteering their time at Gwen's Girls.

We love, appreciate and depend on each other to sustain our beloved community. Looking for ways to get involved? What gifts can you share? Here's a few ways to contribute:
  • Help plan Sunday worship or religious education services
  • Help welcome visitors and support members
  • Organize special events, such as concerts and fundraisers
  • Lead a small group to get to know one another better
  • Provide food and serve a meal at Northside Common Ministries Men's Shelter
  • Organize social justice efforts
  • Lend your handyperson skills to maintain our buildings
  • Use your creative skills on communications

UUPlan 2019 Annual Meeting 
April 26-27
Unitarian Universalist Congregation of York 

 
This year's annual meeting features a keynote address by Paula Cole Jones and is entitled “Communities of Communities”…elevating voices that are not most able to be heard, as well as an effectiveness panel with Paula Cole Jones, Ann Keeler Evans of the Poor Peoples Campaign, Carol Kuniholm of Fair Districts PA, Micah Sims of Common Cause and Tonya Wenger, Social Justice Activist with First UU Church of Berks County. We will also hold a UUPLAN Justice Team Leader Panel Discussion.
