South Engineering Club Awarded $5,000 from Ford NGL

The Harlingen South Engineering Club/ SHPE Jr Chapter competed in the Ford NGL STEAM Competition. Their idea, “Let it Drain”, involves a robotic mechanism to help assist in keeping drains free of trash, minimizing the possibilities of flooding in areas during heavy rain.

Their inspiration came after the damaging floods in June of 2018, where over $50,000,000 of damage was experienced in the Rio Grande Valley. For their creativity and project proposal, Ford NGL awarded the Harlingen South Engineering Club/SHPE Jr. Chapter with $5,000.

This is the third year in a row that the club has received this award, establishing it as tradition for these young Engineering minds. Great job South Hawks!

South Powerlifting Team Finish a Successful First Season

The Hawk powerlifting program got off to an amazing start this season. With lifters recording five second place finishes and a first place finish in two of their meets this year, the Hawks are expecting nothing short of greatness next season. Powerlifting is a difficult and demanding sport in which athletes lift as much weight as they can in the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Members of the Hawks’ powerlifting team worked hard to make themselves the absolute best they can be. With this season under their belts the Hawk lifters are excited about what’s to come.
