Building the Life You Want

The idea of "building a life" can seem daunting, particularly in those first few years after college. Once you leave behind the college student schedule and enter the world of work, it's up to you how, where, and with whom you spend your time as well as having to make big and little decisions that will impact your overall wellbeing. In Allison McWilliams' book "Five For Your First Five: Own Your Career and Life After College," she suggests that you consider and reflect on the following questions for building the life that you want:

As you take time to think about what you want your life to look like, we encourage you to do the following:
  • Check out these expert advice pieces from Wake Forest alumni on defining your balance, creating a wellbeing routine, and more.
  • Connect with a Wake Forest Career Insider to glean wisdom and advice from your fellow Deacs through one-on-one conversations.
  • Write down 2-3 goals (and some specific action items) related to your personal or professional life that will move you one step closer to creating the life that you want. Share these with a mentor, colleague, or friend!
Deacon Spotlight: Tisha Felder ('01)

Deacon Spotlight feature.

"Embrace the fact that life after college isn’t lived in semesters. Real life is not linear, predictable, and cannot always be planned. The joy in this fact is that much of what shapes your life story are those things that you never anticipated would happen. At each stage of your life, seek out and talk with people who are living out things that YOU value in their careers and personal life."
