Message from the CEO

In case you missed it - we announced the program and speaker lineup for our 2019 Sustainable Purchasing Summit in Portland, Oregon, May 20-22! With over 80 speakers in more than 40 sessions, this year's Summit is definitely going to be our biggest and best Summit yet. Take a look at the programspeakers and attending organizations, and register before the Early Bird prices expire on April 13th. Also be sure to check out SPLC Connect the sustainability-focused buyer-supplier matchmaker portion of the program. Taking advantage of the fact that Portland is a hotbed of sustainability innovation we have organized more tours and side events, dine-arounds, and other fun activities than ever before. Plan now to take full advantage!

I would like to welcome the many new members, listed below, that have join the Council since our last newsletter. It's wonderful to see procurement leaders from so many diverse sectors and industries connecting and collaborating with peers. By joining together, we are growing a strong sustainability movement within procurement, and turning professionally-managed purchasing into a powerful force for good in the world!

As always, thanks for reading SPLC UPDATE.

New Member Engagement and Networking Opportunities!

You asked, we listened – SPLC members want more opportunities to engage with each other! SPLC currently connects members virtually via our online community forums and in-person each year at the SPLC Summit + Connect. But we often hear from members who are hungry for more frequent, in-depth connection with their peers tackling similar opportunities and challenges in sustainable purchasing.

To help foster connections, conversations and shared problem-solving for our members, SPLC is proposing two new member engagement and networking opportunities. And we’d like your feedback on how to shape up these groups to make them as useful (and enjoyable!) as they can be. Thanks in advance for reading through the descriptions below and helping us by answering a few questions via this survey that can help us fine-tune our approach!
  • Peer Network Groups: Monthly virtual peer support groups offer SPLC members a safe environment to interact with peers on their most pressing issues in order to provide “real-time” peer sharing and support. Learn about and share best practices, leverage the power of many in developing creative solutions to your current challenges, and expand your sustainable purchasing network during a monthly 1-hour virtual meeting. To keep these groups intimate and connected, we propose to limit each to 8 participants.
  • Topical Action Teams: Member-led teams formed to develop suggested solutions (by leveraging existing best practices and resources) for a specific issue or procurement category. These are meant to be rapid response teams – quickly pooling insights and resources, prototyping and refining solutions, with feedback from outside stakeholders as needed, and their end product will be informal guidance for specific category or initiative areas. These teams will typically meet virtually, biweekly for a 2-3 month period and consist of up to 10 members. Because they are developing interim guidance, the teams may reconvene to review suggested additions or revisions from members on a periodic basis.
