Hi everybody one more time!
I have some really good news to share, and I hope you enjoy them. First of all, this past weekend I received a very pleasant, unexpected call to play at Bistro 72 in Riverhead for Bakithi Kumalo, bass player for Paul Simon for over three decades. My dear friend, Alyson Faith, with whom I’ve been playing for many years, called me to perform that night, and it was a very fun show, with her on vocals, Rodney Harris on drums, and Bill Smith on piano. The show was super fun. We played jazz standards, some Paul Simon hits, and some originals by Alyson. Alyson Faith is a great singer-songwriter, very lively, and with great positive energy. It’s an honor to share the stage with her and to play with Bakithi. She's making a new record with her original material, and her music is beautiful. I hope you enjoy it! Looking a bit further ahead, next month I will be touring to Switzerland with the Glory Gospel Singers for the yearly Polymanga Festival. Last year we had a blast, and I know it will be just as fun this time too. The festival runs for four days from April 19 to the 22 (Easter Break), and we are singing Anime-Gospel music fusion, and songs from popular manga series, TV and movie themes, videogames, and other media. This means singing in exotic languages like Japanese and Swahili! Check out Polymanga 2019 for all the entertainment offered during the festival: Japanese mangas and pop culture, celebrity shows and interviews, video games, cosplay (costume contests), live music shows, dancing, shopping, and more. The festival is covered by major Swiss television and radio networks, and I will be keeping you posted with videos and news. For those of you who feel adventurous, make sure to check out the tour packages on Polymanga’s website! There are lots of other shows and attractions in Montreaux surrounding the festival.
That’s all for now folks, I hope you enjoyed this newsletter. See you soon and have a beautiful day. And whatever you choose to do, make sure you have fun out there!
Best,
Omar
