New Report on Trans-Hudson Tunnel Spells Trouble for the Region
The Regional Plan Association RPA issued a report in February on the potential impact of the partial shutdown of the Hudson River Rail Tunnel. The potential impact could include: dramatically increased commute times, congestion, home devaluation, and increased business and consumer costs. The increased number of drivers on the roads would result in tens of thousands more car crashes, injuries, and 90-100 preventable deaths. The impact will be felt by half a million people and the estimated cost to the national economy is $16 billion over four years. The report makes clear that fact that the Gateway project is extremely important to our region and the national economy.
