We Are Live - Spring/Summer Volunteer Days Posted!

We are thrilled to announce that our first volunteer workdays of the 2019 field season are posted and open for volunteer registration ON OUR BRAND NEW WEBSITE! Please check us out at the new and improved www.rmfi.org. Our spring and summer volunteer workdays offer exciting opportunities including new trail finishing in North Cheyenne Cañon Park, new trail construction in the Pineries Open Space, restoration in Red Rock Canyon Open Space, and many more! We have a lot of work planned for this season. Now all we need is YOU to volunteer! Please join us!

For those of you who have volunteered before on our former website, your log-in email and password should have stayed the same. New volunteers will be asked one time to create a new log-in account to use our online registration system. Log-ins and registration occur from the events on our calendar. If you have any problems whatsoever with our new website, please let us know!

Thank You Mountain Chalet!

Thank you so much to Mountain Chalet for hosting another incredible sold out tour stop of the Banff Mountain Film Festival! For the past 16 years, Mountain Chalet has donated all net proceeds from this amazing event to RMFI in support of our trail and restoration work here in Southern Colorado. Thank you also to Stargazers Theatre for providing the venue and to this awesome community for continually buying up all the tickets. We hope you enjoyed supporting our organization while getting your stoke on watching the world's best in mountain films of the past year.

Join us on Saturday, March 9 at Bristol Brewing Company's Barrel Room where RMFI will be featured at the Pikes Peak Library District's Books & Beer! book club! RMFI's Program Director, Joe, will be co-hosting this event and discussing The Overstory by Richard Powers. This is a very popular book so check out your copy now! We look forward to discussing the book and how its themes relate to RMFI's work as an environmental nonprofit with you on March 9!
Learn more and RSVP on Facebook.

Join Us March 13 and Fund Your Fourteener!

Join the National Forest Foundation and RMFI for a one of a kind evening, celebrating the history of mountaineering in Colorado Springs with an eye towards the future of stewardship. Mix and mingle over hors d’oeuvres and craft beverages while sharing in the spirit and comradery of supporting Colorado’s iconic peaks. RSVP here!

Work Starting Soon to Reroute Devil's Playground

RMFI was recently awarded a $250,000 State Trails grant from Colorado Parks and Wildlife to support a multi-year reroute and new trail construction project on the Devil's Playground Trail, one of the primary summit routes to the top of Pikes Peak. This project is part of the National Forest Foundation’s Find Your Fourteener campaign, which aims to accelerate the pace and scale of 14er work being done across the state. For more information on the project and to see a map of the re-route, please click here

Want to learn more about this project? It's a big deal. Listen or read more with the latest Hiking Bob podcast featuring RMFI's Program Director, Joe, and a recent article from the Gazette.

Work will begin this summer and we have several volunteer opportunities from June-September to get involved in the project. Find and sign up for workdays on our calendar!

Bears Ears National Monument, Here We Come!

Our 2019 field season kicks off in Utah where we will continue our decades-long work of maintaining and making improvements to access trails in Indian Creek Canyon, an increasingly popular Utah climbing destination within the Bears Ears National Monument. Many thanks to our project partners and volunteers: the Access Fund's Conservation Team, BLM Monticello Field Office, the Front Range Climbing Stewards, Montrose High School, Texas Tech and Colorado College's Alternative Spring Break Programs, and the climbing community. Learn more about RMFI's work in Indian Creek here.

APRIL 17: Re-Imagine Waldo Canyon Community Workshop #2

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the first community workshop for the Re-Imagine Waldo Canyon planning project that occurred on January 16th. The complete meeting materials from that workshop are now available to view on www.waldocanyonplanning.com. Mark your calendars for the second of the three community workshops, scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Westside Community Center.

Welcome Our Newest Staff Member, Bronwyn!

RMFI has a new Business Manager! Bronwyn Woodward has been the bookkeeper at Coaltrain Wine & Liquor for the past 16 years and has been a RMFI volunteer for the last 7 years. She is an avid hiker and enjoys skiing during the winter. Meet Bronwyn (and all staff) here.

Our outgoing Business Manager, Liz Nichol, will stay on staff through much of the spring to train Bronwyn into her new role before clocking out for a well-deserved retirement. Thank you, Liz!

New Board Member!

Melissa McCormick has spent most of her career working for state and local parks in Maryland and Colorado. She holds a B.A. in Biology and a(n) M.S. in Forestry with a concentration in recreation. She is an avid backcountry traveller (foot and paddle), Leave No Trace Trainer and Certified Interpretive Guide, and has served as a volunteer ski patroller and Girl Scout leader. We are thrilled to welcome Melissa to our board of directors!

Your Supports Counts!

We are a small but feisty organization that packs a punch! We leverage a small staff and small budget to create big on-the-ground results.
