The 2019 Geography Quest’s Deadline Is Around the Corner! Make sure your child turns in their completed Quests this week. We will accept any Quests turned in by Monday, March 11th. Any child who turns in their quest (regardless of the number attempted) will receive a prize!  The Geography Quest is an annual PTG-sponsored event that lets our Alcott, Thoreau, and Willard families explore geography together, while learning history and how to use reference tools.  We hope that our students in all grades have had fun learning about several National Parks this year.  Thank you to all participants.  Questions? Contact AlcottGeoQuestCommittee.

Alcott Annual Appeal: Thank you to all who have already donated to the Annual Appeal which focuses on raising money needed for the Alcott PTG to provide programs for our children and the Alcott Faculty and Staff. This month the PTG is proud to present Math Night which is funded by your contributions. All of our Children’s Programming and Teacher stipends are funded through the Annual Appeal. If you would like to donate please click here or you can send a check payable to Alcott PTG into the office and label it Annual Appeal.

Looking for volunteers! Math night is coming! Weather-themed ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Math’ is set for Friday evening, March 29th. Please sign-up directly here. Volunteering includes help with setup from 5-6, then helping man one of 10 stations from 6-8.  Each station will have a set of math games intended for grades K-5. Your job is to help the kids be successful! We also need someone to sell concessions.

Principal Search Update: The search to find Alcott's new Principal has been underway and we'd like to give an update on where we are in the process. The Committee crafted 11 questions based on qualities and characteristics Alcott's new Principal should possess that were brainstormed with staff/faculty and parents over the last 3 weeks. The Principal Search Committee has identified and interviewed 2 candidates this week. If you have any questions or would like more info, please reach out to Megan Carroll or Jane Baldini.

*Reminder* METCO Family Friends Bowling Event has been rescheduled to next Tuesday, March 12th from 12:45 to 2:30pm at the Acton Bowladrome. All details about the event are still the same, just the date has changed! If you responded "Yes" to the Evite and cannot attend the new date OR if you could not attend last month, but can attend next Tuesday, please update your response via email to carriemrazek@msn.com. Also, feel free to email with any questions. Hope to see you all next Tuesday, March 12th- keep your fingers crossed for no snow!

National Charity League is kicking off its annual Pajama Drive for Cradles to Crayons. Every winter, C2C partners with the Bruins to collect pajamas for area children in low income and homeless situations. We are collecting new children’s pajamas in any size from baby to big kid. Consider having your children help choose pajamas so they can make a connection to helping a child in need. The drive starts on Monday at Alcott and continues until March 15th. New pajamas can be dropped in the collection box in the Alcott lobby. Thank you!

NEW VOLUNTEER INFO & FORM

Geography Quest 2019 — In Search of Parent Graders: The Geography Quest committee has received some volunteers but hoped to get a few more to help grade the completed Quests for your child’s grade/classroom. An easy and flexible way to volunteer that only takes an hour or two of your time.  We provide an answer key and your “grading” can be done at any hour and any location that works best for you.  Students will turn in their Quests by March 11th and we will then drop off the set of quests for you to grade to your front door and you will then have approx. 2 ½ weeks to grade, add some stickers and return them. Interested? Contact Carla at cmmoynihan@sherin.com.

PTG online volunteer information and sign-up: Please visit our website to discover all the ways both working and non-working parents and guardians are needed to support our wonderful staff, students, and families. Have something to offer that you don’t see listed there? There’s a place for you to submit that info as well! We hope to hear from you!

Dear Parents of 3rd graders, On Feb. 4th, the Alcott Children’s Program, “Early Winds: Music from the King’s Court” was performed by musician, David Coffin. This Children’s Program, brought to you by the PTG, compliments the 3rd grade music curriculum, specifically their music education on the recorder. To visit David’s website, go to www.davidcoffin.com where you’ll find a link to install the free app “Ace Recorder” which makes practicing the recorder at home fun! Here is a letter from David with details about the Revels education program. -Alcott Children’s Program committee.
