Keep Charleston Beautiful is a local organization that aims to preserve the natural beauty of Charleston by picking up human-made waste and to educate volunteers about underlying social issues that are impacted by litter.  Join us on 03/30 and 04/20 from 9am-12pm and 10/20 from 12pm-2pm. We will meet in the Lightsey Lobby. Please make sure to register using Appointment Manager.  
MUSC Urban Farm is a community garden that provides participants with new knowledge on the process of urban gardening as well as the opportunity to try out some best practices. Join us for a Work and Learn on 03/28, 04/11.  We will meet in Lightsey Suite 203 at 3:20 pm. Please make sure to register using Appointment Manager.  
Neighborhood House is a soup kitchen and development office that serves lunch to people experiencing food insecurity in the Charleston community, with a produce "market" that provides access to healthy fruits and vegetables.  Join us 04/15 to help distribute fresh produce to the food insecure population, we will be meeting at 11:00 am in Lightsey Suite 203. Please make sure to register using Appointment Manager.  
Lowcountry Food Bank is the primary distributor of donated food in the Charleston area.  They collect, inspect, and distribute donations all over the South Carolina Coast.  We will be packing, cleaning, and sorting food while learning about food insecurity in our local community.  Pickup will be at 8:30 am on 04/06 between the McAllister and Berry dormitories.  Participants will be back to campus no later than 12:30. Please make sure to register using Appointment Manager
Farmers' Market Gleaning is this held on select Saturdays from 1-3pm and consists of collecting food from select farmers’ booths, sorting through the produce to see what will keep over the weekend, and transport it to Neighborhood House where it will later be distributed. Gleanings will take place 04/13 from 1-3pm. We will meet Outside of Lightsey. Please sign up through Appointment Manager via MyCharleston
One-Eighty Place provides food, shelter, and hope to end homelessness and hunger one person at a time, one family at a time. Service will take place 03/13 from 5:30-8pm. We will meet in the Lightsey Lobby. Please sign up through Appointment Manager via MyCharleston
On-going Volunteer Opportunities

Engaging Creative Minds is looking to recruit volunteers for their organization!

They are dedicated to providing learning opportunities to engage students and get them out of their desks and learning through the arts!

They are looking for passionate individuals that they can build relationships with and become part of the Engaging Creative Minds family. 

They need reliable volunteers that can help them with the following events.

1. Kids Fair
When: Sunday, March 3rd from 10 AM - 4 PM
Where: Gaillard Center
What: We need volunteers to work our booth and interact with kids at Kids fair and do fun and engaging activities! Volunteers can help out for the entire duration or a two hour time slot.
 
2. STEM fest
When: Saturday, March 9th from 10 AM - 3 PM
Where: Exchange Park, Ladson
What: We need volunteers to work our booth and do STEM based activities and experiments with kids and the public. Volunteers can help out for the entire duration or a two hour time slot.

The City of Charleston PD are seeking volunteers to help them complete their in-service training, which occurs twice a month on Thursdays.   This year the City of Charleston Fire Department will also be participating in the training.  The training is focused on teaching the tactics needed by the police and fire departments to get lifesaving medical treatment to victims after a mass casualty event, such as an active shooter scenario.  Each training day, they will need eight (8) volunteers to help them complete the training.  The volunteers are critical to add realism to the scenarios, and will help the police and fire departments increase their operational readiness and ability to effectively respond to a mass casualty event.   Here is the signup genius link:

The Charleston Miracle League is a non-profit organization that makes available the game of baseball for children and adults with special needs.  One important aspect of their group's success are the contributions of the good people that volunteer and help them get through game days.  Volunteer opportunities include; Buddies on the Field, Fans in the stands, Concession Stand, and Game Announcers.

Those that are interested in helping out can go to their website: charlestonmiracleleague.org, and sign up for specific dates and positions via the "Volunteer Registration" button.  Also, volunteers are welcome to just show up on game days, without signing up at all. 

Their seasons consist of two 8 week periods, once in the Fall which just concluded, and once in the Spring which should start in the first Saturday in March.  During the season, game are on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Volunteers are not obligated to stay the entire day.  Show up when you want, leave when you want.  However, the longer they can keep volunteers during the day, the more helpful.

Charleston Animal Society is a local animal shelter is currently looking for volunteers to walk dogs, socialize cats, help in their spay/neuter clinic, and much more. The National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center at MUSC is looking for volunteers to provide clinic- and telephone-based follow-up mental health services to adult rape victims in the tri-county area. This volunteer opportunity would be great for students interested in psychology, nursing, ob/gyn, or have an interest in helping individuals with the following problems under the supervision of a licensed psychologist: sexual assault, substance misuse, suicidal ideation, post traumatic stress disorder, general mental health and case management. They also have research opportunities for volunteers so they can get both clinical and research opportunities with this volunteer project. If interested, please send a letter of interest outlining areas of interest and any related experience along with a CV to Dr. Amanda Gilmore (project director) at gilmoram@musc.edu.

Meals on Wheels! The Charleston Area Senior Citizens and their Meals on Wheels (MOW) program are looking for volunteers to come in between 7:30/8 am until 2pm. There is no time requirement nor would someone need to stay all day, we would be very glad to work around someone’s schedule.  There are also hours available in the afternoon from about 11-2 during lunchtime. Another option is to help out with a volunteer route of about 10-15 clients in the downtown area.
