City Centre Connectivity schemes: What’s happening near you?

Work has started on Victoria Street, as part of the Liverpool City Centre Connectivity (LCCC) scheme, which will see changes made to traffic flows, public spaces, and cycling routes across the city.

Homelessness and Rough Sleeping: Who Cares?

09:30–12:30 Thursday 4th April (free) – A must-attend event for any resident of the city centre or waterfront who cares about the issue of homelessness and rough sleeping in the Liverpool City Region.

Chaired by Professor Michael Parkinson of the University of Liverpool, and featuring speakers including Mayor Joe Anderson, Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram, and other key business leaders, this half-day conference will scope the nature of the homelessness challenge and map the local response and vision for the future.

Mapping Engage Liverpool’s impact

As we reported last month, a resident movement is underway to maintain Richard Huws’ historic kinetic sculpture in its original location on Beetham Plaza. There’s still time to sign the petition if you haven‘t already. You can also read more about the fountain and plaza on Merseyside Civic Society’s website.

209 Women photo exhibition opens for International Women’s Day

1st March to 14th April (free) – This fascinating exhibition at the Open Eye Gallery, Mann Island, includes portraits of female MPs, all photographed by female photographers in an all-female initiative.

100 years after the first women in the UK gained the right to vote, Helen Pankhurst, great grand-daughter of Emmeline Pankhurst, notes: “To represent and be presented for what we are—as women, by women—is a very special thing. This is what 209 women is all about.” Read more.
