Grant News

In our last newsletter, I hinted rather strongly that we have exciting grant news, as we have been awarded three wonderful grants for our library.  At the time, I was waiting for the official announcements, and today, I am free to share just one with you.

We are very pleased to be one of 25 libraries in the United States, and the only one in New Hampshire to win a Summer Learning Resources grant for $1,000 from the Young Adult Library Services Association and Dollar General.

Click here for the official announcement!

Our grant will be used to enhance our offerings, both physical and digital, for our teen population.
The teen staff and patrons have indicated a need for more accessible, highly engaging Young Adult (YA) books for reluctant YA readers, as well as an expanded virtual outlet for sharing their thoughts and ideas about what they read, as well as other topics of interest.  In addition to providing more titles from ALA’s "2018 Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers,” the grant will fund an iPad and accessories so that our teens can create book trailers of YA titles, which can be featured on a new page for our website, JPL Teen Magazine.  JPL Teen Magazine will host teen related content, developed by our teens and moderated by professional library staff, on our official library website.  Content creation for JPL Teen Magazine will engage our young adults who already visit the library, while the content itself will create a safe, digital space that will reach beyond our walls to other teens.

Watch for a new JPL Teen Magazine section on our website this summer!

Event Reminder!
White Stars, Black Sea - A Titanic Retrospective

Thursday, March 21 at 11 am at the Jaffrey VFW

The Jaffrey Public Library invites you to a presentation on the dustier sides of Titanic history, with rare photos, stories, and artifacts from the ship. Will Kindler is a collector and historian who has studied the story of the ship for more than 25 years. Come sample menu items, hear largely unknown accounts of the famous voyage, and see (and touch!) items which were actually there that night. This event will take place on  March 21 at 11 am at the Jaffrey VFW Friendly Meals and is free and open to the public.
There is no registration for the program, but if you do want to attend the meal afterwards, please call 352-2253 or (800) 541-4145 to reserve your spot with HCS Services.
