Note from Dr. Cannon

March 11, 2019

Dear Breton Downs Families,

Madagascar Jr., opens Friday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Pioneer Auditorium and continues on Saturday afternoon, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. Many thanks to Mrs. Timmer for directing the play and to Mrs. Norris, Mrs. Bullock, and Mrs. Remes for their creativity and leadership.  With over 220 Breton Downs students participating in the play, it will be a show to remember!

This time of year EGRPS starts planning for high school graduation and enrolling next year’s kindergarten class of 2032.  Both journeys involve students and parents embracing the next phase of their children’s lives. In East Grand Rapids we hold a kindergarten presentation in May that highlights our curriculum, the school day, and special events.  This gives our new families an opportunity to learn about our district and the educational journey their student will start. If you have an incoming kindergarten student or know of a family with a kindergarten student, please have them enroll here.  We look forward to the class of 2032 and wish the class of 2019 much success!

Please remember to park in designated parking spaces on school property. Vehicles may not be parked in fire lanes during the school day or while attending events when school is not in session. The fire lanes must be accessible at all times.

Additional events in March

  • On Monday, March 18 our 4th and 5th grade choir will be featured in the Melodies in March concert at Wealthy Elementary’s Pioneer Auditorium.

  • Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 21 and Tuesday, March 26.  This is a wonderful time to discuss your child’s progress and areas of growth with the classroom teacher.  All students have been scheduled for a conference and parents and/or guardians should have received a confirmation email.  Call the office with any questions.

  • No school- Friday, March 29 - Friday, April 5 - Spring Break.  We will resume classes on Monday, April 8.

Warmest regards,

Caroline

Illness Prevention

We are hopeful that winter is coming to an end, but with all the changes in weather, we want to remind parents of best practices regarding illness. A child must be fever-free without the aid of fever-reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school. Throughout the day, staff encourage students to wash their hands. These measures help to prevent the spread of illness in our schools. Thank you for your support.

Parking Lot Reminder

As a reminder, parking lot B is not to be used as a pick up or drop off spot.  Cars should not be pulling into the parking lot to wait for students. With safety being our top priority, please remind your children to walk on the sidewalks and to not cut through the lot.  We appreciate your help with this matter.
