Last Weekend at GHC

 

First up, a big well done to Charterhouse for their Friday Night Lights event on 1 March - there were more than 700 people in attendance for the 1st and 2nd XI school matches v St George's College.

What an event and a great way to get more pupils and staff interested in hockey (the free food might have helped!). Thanks for your patience to those GHC teams who waited to get onto the pitches as the event ran slightly over time.

GHC Senior teams had plenty of close scores on Saturday! In our 12 league fixtures we had 7 wins and 5 losses, scoring 22 goals and letting in 19.

The losses were mostly by one goal only (two matches by two goals). Sadly, our M1s unbeaten streak comes to an end after 18 matches.

The Ladies 1s also chalked up a narrow loss - opposition teams still in contention for promotion are liking redoubling their efforts in the home stretch of the season.

One of these league matches was our Ladies 4s winning against our Ladies 5 by 2 goals to nil. Worth mentioning that the Ladies 4s have lost only one match this season - and that was to our own Ladies 5s earlier in the season!

The Ladies 4s lead their league table and we wish them and the 5s best of luck to both finish top in Surrey Div 10 - still five games to play!

Things are heating up in other league tables as well as the Men's 2s' narrow loss to Wanderers puts some pressure on their final three games - good luck guys!

Our Under 12 Boys and Girls participated in the Surrey Cup competitions, hosted at GHC on Sunday. With 38 teams participating it was a busy and competitive day.

Unfortunately our teams were knocked out in the QF stages in very, very close matches that both went to penalty strokes.

In other Sunday fixtures, the M1s were knocked out of the EH Tier 2 Cup in another very narrow loss 1-2 to Surbiton. The L1s are still in the EH Cup T2 competition, scheduled to play Sonning on 17 March.

This Weekend at GHC

 

Another big Saturday for our Senior teams with all 12 in action again.

The Ladies 1s are at home at 13:15 - come and support!

Other home matches include Men's 2s and Ladies' 2s on the Water pitch and Ladies' 5s, Gondoliers and Men's 3s on the Sand.

Sunday's action is likely breaking more records for the club with GHC hosting 27 fixtures on that day!

Twenty-seven! Including three pools of England Hockey Under 16 Tier 1 Area Finals - two Boys' pools and one Girls pool. The stakes are high as the winner of each pool gets a place in the EH National Finals!

Good luck to our Boys and Girls who will be playing at Charterhouse - come and support!

The Under 10 Girls and Under 12 Boys are competing in their Surrey Plate Competitions on Sunday as well.

St Bert's Clothing Sale at GHC Friday 15 March in the Clubhouse


On Friday 15th March, St Bert's Clothing will be selling their cool range of kids clothing, for 4-12 year olds, in the club house at Broadwater between 6pm and 8pm.  

If you are not familiar with St Bert's, they sell comfortable clothing for kids from sweatshirts and hoodies to T-shirts and tracksuit bottoms. It is well made, hard wearing at the same time as being retro in design and comfortable.

Ladies’ Back to Hockey – New players welcome!
 

Have you been watching your son or daughter play every Sunday thinking “that looks like fun!”?

Or perhaps you lost touch with hockey after school or uni but would love to pick up a stick again. Maybe you've never played before...

Every Wednesday evening a group of players of all ages get together at GHC for some fun hockey skills and small-sided games.

The no-pressure sessions are really sociable and a great way to get fitter whilst getting to know new people and enjoying the sport we all love!

We are currently looking for more players to join our friendly group – come along to our next session this Wednesday 6th March at 8pm. If you’d like to know more email Cathy

Seems hard to believe but the season is soon over. Not to worry, though, as the fun continues. In recent years we have had the following initiatives and plan to run similar programmes.

Details coming soon from your Captain/Squad Manager and watch this space... in InTouch...
  • Wednesday evening 7-a-side games for seniors (juniors can play from age 13 and up) - pay to play. Well worth repeating. Details coming soon
  • Junior Performance Academy - skills sessions for AC and PC players wishing to progress/keep sharp in the Spring/Summer. By invitation (coming soon). Will be Tue/Thu for Boys/Girls 8 sessions staring 5 May.
  • Junior Friday evening sessions - it's hard to break the habit of coming to GHC every Friday night. Sessions will re-start for mixed age groups/gender after the Easter break. Pay to play.
  • Ladies Summer League - also well worth repeating.
Any other ideas to keep fit and having fun with hockey in the summer?

Contact your Captain or Squad Manager - it often only takes a suggestion and some elbow grease to start up a fun new thing that the Club will support!
