MUSTAFA AYESH AND JOHN ZAHARIEV
THE ANTI-SEMITES TWITTER PROTECTS
Too often, threatening social media posts are a precursor to actual violence. Before Robert Bowers walked into the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh and gunned down innocent congregants, he posted on Gab.ai, “I can't sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I'm going in."

None of us can stay silent in the wake of this kind of hateful and violent language.

Dr. Lara Kollab
In January 2019, Canary Mission made an enormous impact through our discovery and exposure of Dr. Lara Kollab at the Cleveland Clinic for tweeting that she would giver her Jewish patients "the wrong meds."
Twitter Locks Canary Mission's Account
However, in a bizarre twist, less than two months later Twitter sanctioned Canary Mission for exposing two more potentially dangerous individuals, who were tweeting similarly violent content.

On February 18th, 2019, Twitter locked our account for this tweet calling out John Zahariev:

"@UHouston student and SJP affiliate John Zahariev @violaslayvis hates the police: “Police don't get conditional hate from me. F**k em all." “lets hope the police die." & then “Are they shooting the police? ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿 Hope the 🐖🐖💀💀💀👻 (pigs die)"
Then, in a shameful dishonoring of their own procedures, Twitter did not answer any of our appeals over the course of the following 2 weeks.

Instead, the social media giant doubled-down in protecting hate-speech. adding another shocking sanction to us. On March 2nd, 2019, Twitter issues a second account lock. This time for a tweet exposing anti-Semite, Mustafa Ayesh.

“Nashville resident and aspiring rapper Mustafa Ayesh @AmmansVeryOwn tweeted this hideous rhyme, "‘Versace Versace f**k b**ches bake Jews that's the life of a Nazi’ #HailHitler !!"”
TWITTER BACKTRACKS
Late On March 6th, Twitter suddenly removed both locks and reinstated the Canary Mission account in full. They have yet to provide an explanation for their actions, either for the locks or their change of heart.

It is without doubt that the efforts of our supporters calling out Twitter for their shocking actions led directly to them backtracking. We are extremely grateful to everyone who messaged Twitter Support.

We are however left wondering...
What is worse... the violence and racism of John Zahariev and Mustafa Ayesh or the institutional anti-Semitism of Twitter?
