Doing our bit for our treasured environment

One of the great things about Port Stephens is our connection to the environment. Whether you live, work or holiday here, we all need to do our bit to make sure our beautiful surrounds are kept in top notch condition.

This Saturday 16 March 2019, the Seaside Scavenge is heading to Robinson Reserve at Birubi Beach. Based on the concept of trading trash for treasure, the event will help promote the recycling and upcycling message by encouraging treasure hunters to trade in beach litter for a range of vintage and upcycled items including clothes, accessories and more at a pop-up market. Everyone is welcome at this very unique beach clean-up event which runs from 9am to 1pm.

Back at our administration building in Raymond Terrace we have just installed a 99.96 kilowatt solar photovoltaic system which will reduce annual energy consumption.

We all need to be leaders in our community when it comes to using our resources sustainably and efficiently. With the addition of 357 solar panels on our Administration Building roof, it’s estimated that we’ll be able to reduce its yearly energy consumption by a massive 25%. Our building will use approximately 85% of the solar power generated, while the remaining 15% will be put back into the grid on weekends and public holidays when energy use is low.

We have been able to take advantage of Federal Government rebates to deliver this project, and it’s estimated that we will achieve a return on investment in about four years, which is a great result.
