Children at Thomas Willingale School and Nursery went back to the Stone Age for a specially-themed World Book Day.

After a week of fun centred around the Stone Age including the visit of three 'cave people' who camped on the school field for two nights, World Book Day saw the children turn up at school dressed as a variety of Stone Age characters - including cave men and woman, woolly mammoths, Sabre Tooth tigers and Stone Hedge.

During the week the children also took part in a drama experience with an archaeologist, studied books such as 'Cave Baby', 'How to wash a woolly Mammoth', 'Wolf Brother' and 'Stig of the dump', and untold art work and models that are being shared in an open exhibition for parents.

The children also took part in a whole school story that was written by every class bit by bit and a Stone Age version of 'We Will Rock You' which the children learnt and sung together.

Head Teacher Teresa Phillips said: "We saw a plethora of creative ways to represent the Stone Age and the school was awash with animal print. It was a sight to behold!

"The children have been given such an experience this week. We really believe in children learning through experience and immersion, the writing they have produced this week has really exemplified that. It has been a hard week to organise but well worth it."
