Forty percent of the UA College of Medicine – Tucson Class of 2019 will remain in Arizona to practice medicine and pursue their residency training. More than one-third of the class will pursue primary care — a physician specialty that is critically low in Arizona and the nation.

A $1.2 million grant from the JDRF will support Department of Surgery researcher Klearchos Papas, PhD, as he continues perfecting and testing an implantable "tea bag" that senses glucose levels and automatically releases insulin when needed.
Khadijah Breathett, MD, MS, a cardiologist at the Sarver Heart Center, was selected as one of the National Minority Quality Forum’s “40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health” for 2019. She is a passionate advocate for health equity and conducts research on bias in health care.
The UA Center for Integrative Medicine at the College of Medicine – Tucson will be named for Dr. Andrew Weil, who has committed $15 million to the center, bringing his total giving to $20 million.
