Waxwing Friday: Empty Barrels, Last Chance Wines and Bonus Cabernet Sauvignon

Tonight I'm featuring five wines from the Waxwing cellar that are nearly sold out:

2016 Tondré Grapefield Riesling from the Santa Lucia Highlands
2015 Ascona Pinot Noir from the Santa Cruz Mountains
2016 Lester Family Pinot Noir from the Santa Cruz Mountains
2015 Halcón Syrah from the Yorkville Highlands in Mendocino County
2013 Flocchini Syrah from the Sonoma Coast

Each of these wines have been personal favorites and scored well with critics and local restaurants. Now would be a great time to grab a few bottles for your own cellar before I run out.

Doors open from 6 to 9pm.

I spent this week waxwing the tops of the soon to be released Waxwing Cabernet Sauvignon from Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara. Visit the winery tonight for a taste.

Four more barrels were emptied at the winery this week and need a new home. They are in perfect condition for wine or other projects and go for $50/each or FREE with a purchase of six or more Waxwing bottles.

The Friday Night Flights tastings are held at the Belmont winery, 111 Industrial Rd, Unit 8, and go from 6 to 9 pm. Taste a flight of 5 Waxwing wines for $10 (FREE for Club Waxwing members and a guest).

This is the tree right outside the winery in Belmont. Hard to see from the picture but this week the Cedar Waxwings have been feeding on the little red berries in the tree. There's about 25 Waxwings buried in the foliage. I can hear their calls and they make the tree shake as they pull berries off the stems. It's fun to have a flock of Waxwings at Waxwing.
