The Lord heard our voice and saw our affliction, our toil and our oppression

A very warm welcome to you all.  Lent, the time of preparation and penitence prior to Easter, begun with a very special Ash Wednesday this past week.

It was a delight as a Parish to join with Bishop Michael at our Church School on Ash Wednesday and then later that night in Holy Trinity for the imposition of ashes.  We look forward to contiuing our journey through Lent and Holy Week with him.

This coming Tuesday the Church of England will mark the 25th Anniversary of the first Ordination of Women (which took place in Bristol Cathedral).  To give thanks to God for this important date, we will be holding a special Sung Eucharist on Tuesday evening at 7.30pm.  I would encourage you to join us as we celebrate this milestone.

Do join us for worship as we continue walking through this season - all are welcome.

The app is ideal for anyone to use daily in Lent – starting from Ash Wednesday and finishing 40 days later on Palm Sunday.  The 40 daily reflections on The Beatitudes – eight beautiful sayings at the heart of Jesus’ teaching – are grouped in eight groups of five days on each beatitude and include

  • A theme linked to the beatitude
  • A suggested short Bible reading that explores that theme
  • A short reflection by Steven Croft (Bishop of Oxford)
  • A suggestion of how to pray
  • A prompt to act.
Now available to download via the Google or Apple App Stores, or here.

News from our School

This week in our school -

  • We worshipped together at our School Eucharist in St Thomas' Tuesday morning - thinking about Shrove Tuesday, and what the season of Lent ahead means.  The children were a credit to the school and their parents with their behaviour and approach in church.
  • Bishop Michael joined us for the imposition of Ashes during Collective Worship on Ash Wednesday.  The respectful way the children took part impressed Bishop Michael - it was a delight to mark this important day with our school family.
  • We welcomed Revd. Alison, our SIAMS (the church school inspection service) inspector on Thursday (which was also World Book Day).  A great thanks to the children, staff and teachers for their enthusiasm and positivity during the inspection.  The full results will be communicated in a few weeks once the SIAMS report has been written.
  • Year 5 and 6 took part in a cross country race at Rowley Park.  Congratulations to Ella, who came 1st, and Abbie, who came 3rd, in their races.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,

God bless,

Fr Graham
