Climate Change Planning Workshop

Provincetown is holding a workshop for public participation to prioritize efforts for a more resilient Provincetown. You are invited to attend the day-long workshop on Friday, March 15th 8:30am – 4:30pm; breakfast and lunch provided. This workshop will be held at the Center for Coastal Studies at 5 Holway Ave. Free parking is available in the Grace Hall parking lot. RSVPs are greatly appreciated to get a head count for food. You can RSVP by phone: (508) 487-7000 x554 or email: tfamulare@provincetown-ma.gov.

This workshop, using specifically trained consultants, will review the mitigation measures laid out in the
Hazard Mitigation Plan. It would be great if we could get some part-time residents for that day – so save the date and plan to attend. Completing this process qualifies the Town for future state grants to implement the action plan. This spring, there will be additional listening sessions for the community where the town will present the outcomes of the workshop and receive additional feedback, ideas and concerns.

Serving on Town Committees

The PPRTA spoke with the Town Clerk to get the final word on part-time resident taxpayers serving on town committees. Yes, you can sit on Non-Regulatory Committees (commissions/boards) as an Alternate, if appointed.

In very simple terms, Regulatory Committees can set public policy; Non-Regulatory Committees can recommend articles/items, etc. Alternates count toward a quorum, which in turn allows the respective Committee to meet in the first place. An Alternate can also vote if not enough members are present to vote. You will have a meaningful voice if you are in the room!

There are many non-regulatory committees, including the Finance Committee. There is currently one vacancy for an alternate on the Finance Committee. Of the many, many committees in Provincetown, only seven are regulatory committees on which non-voters cannot serve: Conservation, Health, Historic District, Licensing, Planning, Water and Sewer, Zoning.
