Hello friends!

Wherever you are in the world, I hope you are having a good day :)

In this month’s newsletter, I want to bring to your attention this marvellous debut by Chinese-American author Jenny Zhang. “Sour Heart” is a collection of stories told by the daughters of Chinese immigrants in the United States. We get to witness their coming of age in a country that is and isn’t their own. The book was the first acquisition by Lena Dunham's Lenny imprint, Lenny Books, via Random House, in 2017.

The stories in “Sour Heart” are beautifully written and its characters translate perfectly what it feels like to be foreign, away from your own culture and trying to find yourself in a new and unknown country. Some of them are funny, others are sad, but all of them thread from that displacement feeling, so common amongst immigrants.

If you do choose to pick this as your next read, I hope you enjoy it - and also let me know what you thought about it!

a spectacularly sad ending

My first book, “a spectacularly sad ending”, is a collection of poetry and prose about heartbreak, loss and survival. It chronicles experiences of love, loss, abuse and grief, and is for anyone who is or ever had to mend a broken heart. It's available as a paperback and also on Kindle.
