March 2019

Happy Spring (almost)!

We have some great new programming for you this month focusing on transgender youth.  On OutCasting, youth participant Andrew talks with Paul D. Castillo of Lambda Legal's Dallas office about Title IX, the federal law that bars sex discrimination in schools.  Trans students certainly face discrimination — for example, bullying by schoolmates and school personnel, restricted access to appropriate restrooms and locker rooms, and the inability to change their names on official school records to match their gender identities.  Can these young people turn to Title IX for protection?  Listen to the first part of this two part series to find out.

On OutCasting Overtime, Andrew talks about his personal experience with a former doctor of his who was insensitive to his needs as a transgender boy.  How do the needs of trans young people differ from those of their cisgender friends?  Find out in this highly personal commentary.  Listen here.

And on the fifth edition of the OutCasting Ga[y]me Show, Alex and Dhruv range through a number of issues recently in the news, including a newly-revealed gay couple on a TV show, a restaurant prohibiting a same-sex couple from sharing a dessert, and a controversial comment made by a YouTube personality.  Listen here.

Thanks for your interest and support!  Talk with you next month.

All our best,

Marc and the OutCasting team
