Bike Lodi is READY for 2019!

,Hello All
Bike Lodi is ready for 2019! Last year was fantastic and we accomplished so much. We increased the number of Bike Valets from 18 in 2017 to 23 in 2018 and increased the number of bikes parked from 620 in 2017 to 978 in 2018! We introduced new events with the Park to Park ride which had over 100 cyclists out pedaling the streets of Lodi. In partnership with A&W, SJC Public Health, and Performance Bicycles we hosted a Family Bicycle Cruise Night. Children went through stations for helmet fitting, bike locks and bike safety checks. Over 75 bikes competed for awards such as Best Vintage Bike and Best Custom Bike. We worked with the City of Lodi’s Public Works Department to support their successful grant request for Measure K funding - a road diet project for Church Street.
As our group continues to grow, we continue to advocate for cyclists at the City, County and State levels. We are always on the lookout for ways to support our community. Everything from work with Lodi Adopt A Child assembling bikes for kids to establishing the Bike Lodi Bike Friendly Business Award. We are excited for this next year and are always open to your thoughts, ideas and suggestions. Please feel free to join us in making Lodi An Exceptional Cycling Community!

THANK YOU JONI!
For the last eleven years as the Ride Director, Join Bauer, aka Bionic Babe, has poured endless hours into the Pedaling Paths to Independence Bike Ride. Once again this year, Joni and her dedicated volunteers hosted an amazing ride! Joni estimates the ride has generated over $160,000 to support the programs and services at the Community Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CCBVI). Currently, Joni is wrapping up an impressive 42 year career as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist for CCBVI. She has made lasting improvements in the quality of life for those who are blind or visually impaired. By spearheading accessible pedestrian signals project throughout San Joaquin County and helping to bring talking/tactile maps to all the transit properties in San Joaquin County, her mark on this community will forever be present.
As well known as Joni is for her dedication to her work, her reputation as an outstanding cyclist is just as impressive. Beginning with her induction into the California Triple Crown Hall of Fame in 2013, and having completed 77 double centuries, most of us are left in awe. Joni is quick to acknowledge the support of Doug Breisner and the members of the Stockton Bicycle Club for her accomplishments. Through her personal commitment and advocacy to cycling, Joni is an outstanding role model in our cycling community. We are so grateful for all Joni has done for the cycling public and her overall presence in our lives. Congratulations Joni on your well deserved retirement! We are excited for what the future holds for you!

On February 23rd, hundreds of riders pedaled either the 25 or 65 mile course. The weather was cool but dry and we rode through beautiful pastures, orchards, vineyards and quiet rural roads. The post meal, provided by DeVinci’s Delicatessen & Catering was fantastic. A great day was had by all.

Can't Wait for Spring!
Have you had enough of winter? Tired of the rain? Does your bicycle feel abandoned and forgotten as it gathers dust in the garage? Granted, it is difficult to get motivated for a bike ride when it's cold and wet outside, but it won't be long before warmer weather is here. Right now is the perfect time to pull the bike out and get it ready for the riding season ahead. Air up those tires, lube the chain, check the brakes, and...oh, what the heck, you've gone this far, may as well get out and go for a ride. But where? You say you haven't ridden all winter and out of shape? Here is an easy out and back ride to nearby Thornton to get you started. It's all flat, traffic is usually light, and winds are generally from the northwest which means a tailwind on your return. Starting at the Lodi Arch, it's 14 miles to Thornton and, of course, another 14 miles back. If that's too much, you can always turn back at any point. Just keep in mind wherever you turn back you not only need to double the mileage, but also the aches and pains of your first ride. If you decide to ride all the way to Thornton, there are some food options available when you get there. Thornton Market, Circle H and Chevron (with a Subway) and Primos Bakery (panaderia) are all within close proximity and offer a variety of snacks that you would expect to find at such a place.
Ready to go?...but not sure your bike is up to the task? Not confident of your mechanical skills? Unfortunately, Lodi's only two retail bicycle stores have recently closed, but that doesn't mean you need to drive your bike out of town to be repaired. We are fortunate to have in Lodi the "Mobile Lodi's Bike Shop" run by the very capable Steven Knutson. If you need help with your bike, give Steven a call (209) 327-1365 and he will arrive at your doorstep in his tool equipped mobile shop and help get your bike back on the road.
