 From the President

It is hard to believe that we're already into March!  We have a lot going on!  Currently our Red Show is hanging at the Legacy and the Ceta Canyon retreat is this month.  Our Spring Show is in April as well as the Art Festival.  To make sure we have our booth ready for the Art Festival, we are having another Paint-In on April 6, 10:00 - 2:00 at the Legacy. We had such a good time at our last Paint-In.  Bring a small gallery wrapped canvas, your art supplies and a sack lunch.  Water and coffee will be provided.  There will be plenty of people there to help and encourage.  Come ready to have some FUN!

I find it exciting that we have such a vibrant organization that offers all of our members numerous opportunities to learn and grow.  I love what Jimmy Davis said at our last meeting.  I apologize for my inability to quote him exactly but, he basically said he took all the art classes to earn his degree.  However, he didn't really learn to paint until he joined our organization.  I thought that was a pretty amazing statement and a wonderful tribute to the value of WTWS!

"Art is what we call ... the thing an artist does.  It's not the medium or the oil or the price or whether it hangs on a wall or you eat it.  What matters, what makes it art, is that the person who made it overcame the resistance, ignored the voice of doubt and made something worth making.  Something risky.  Something human.  Art is not in the ... eye of the beholder.  It's in the soul of the artist".     ~Seth Godin~

CETA CANYON RETREAT
CETA CANYON

It's not too late to sign up for Ceta Canyon......come join us for lots of fun, experimenting with new ideas, serious painting, learning from each other——- lots bring everything but the kitchen sink—just plain awesomeness.....we even have a good friends coming from Liberal Kansas and Arizona!!!  I promise you won't regret it!!!!!

This year our Ceta Canyon Retreat is March 17-22. It is a time to get away without the interruption of phones, family duties, etc.  You can paint daylight to dark - or sleep until noon.  It has trails to take daily hikes or plein air paint. It is very common to see deer wonder through the Canyon. Ceta Canyon is a large facility for painting and an updated lodge for sleeping, nothing fancy, but you don't go for luxury, just plenty of painting.  Everyone has their own room with bathroom and shower - a list of suggested supplies needed, emergency numbers, etc. will be sent to everyone after they have signed up.

Everyone works on their own - - at their own pace (water media only please).  There are no instructors, but we all learn so much from each other.   At the end of each day, we have critique time - you can participate or not - but it is a great opportunity to have other artists share their expertise with each other.

There is a four (4) day minimum required- this year it is $272 and for five (5) nights it is $340.  If you want to just pay for the four night but then decide to stay longer I can collect the rest at Ceta.

More information about Ceta or questions please contact Dyan Newton 806-470-3748

Do you have art supplies that you are not using and you would like to get rid of? Please consider donating them to the Guadalupe Community Center. The donations can be brought anytime we have a membership meeting or event. We've been doing this all along but most of our members don't know about it.
