HELLO MARCH!
Greetings Fellow JLCV Members:

Both Seventh Generation and Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf will be speaking along with Amanda and myself. I hope you can attend.  We also have our Masquerade Gala on Saturday March 16th. It would be wonderful to see you all there, and please bring a friend.

DIAPER BANK UPDATE
Our ribbon cutting is THIS Thursday, March 7th from 11:30-1:30 (program to begin at 12:15) -- we hope you can make it and feel free to extend the invitation to others who you think might like to learn more about the diaper bank. Parking is limited so if you are able to carpool and/or park away from our front door to leave room for our guests who aren't as familiar with the space.

Our attention has been hyper focused on the ribbon cutting but our next distribution is coming up a week later on the 15th so please join us prior to the March GMM at 5:00 to pull the diapers for that distribution. You can sign up here.

We'll add additional DIADs later in March to work towards our May distribution. As always if you want to host a diaper drive or have an idea of who we should approach please let us know -- the drives are the lifeblood of the diaper bank.

I'll be traveling to Washington, D.C. at the end of March to participate in the National Diaper Bank lobbying day at the Capitol, and I look forward to making some connections with our legislators to begin our advocacy work around diaper need.

Thank you all for your continued support and volunteering; it truly does take a village.

Onward!

Amanda

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE MEALS NEEDED
The Ronald McDonald House needs your help!

We need members to commit to preparing meals for the families at the RMH on April 4th and May 2nd.

To prepare a meal, members should plan to provide an entree, sides, and desserts for 10-15 people. Ingredients lists are appreciated, and meals should be dropped off to RMH in Burlington by 4:00 p.m. Reimbursment is available for up to $40.

Contact Heidi Bean with questions or to sign up.

DIAD Committee Report

Diaper Repackaging

The year is flying by and those that have participated in the DIADs at the Diaper Bank are just so darn efficient that some of the events have been cancelled as the present need was met. There is a “PRE-GMM” repacking scheduled for March 12 from 5 to 6:30 before the meeting.  However, this is a regular, ongoing project and the Diaper Committee will be providing an updated schedule soon so we can post the next series of Diaper Re-packing DIAD events – so stay tuned!

Vermont Food Shelf

Unfortunately, after polling the private Facebook group, there was not enough interest/commitment to getting the minimum of 10 to 12 people for a Vermont Food Shelf event this spring.  Since we cancelled due to low numbers before, we don’t want to schedule something again and have to back out a second time.  We will have the DIAD Committee check on this particular option again for next year’s schedule.

Breakfast Social Followed by Red Cross Blood Donation

There has been an interest in the poll about a combined Social/DIAD where we would meet for a Saturday morning breakfast followed by those that “can and will” group blood donation appointment.  It looks like the date will tentatively be Saturday, March 30.  I will be talking to Rhawnie as the Social Chair to get this pulled together.  I think we will put the sign up on the calendar and then allow those that are attending to select the location for breakfast!  So, sign up now – even if you are only planning on breakfast!

Fletcher Free Library

We have another chance to assist the Fletcher Free Library by helping them fold and sort T-shirts on Wednesday, May 1 for their upcoming summer programs.  This will be an evening event at the library and should make for a great opportunity to socialize and chit-chat while helping another great partner in the community.

Get to the calendar now to sign up for these last few DIAD’s for community service hours.

As always, if you have any thoughts or suggestions for DIAD opportunities, please just let me know.

MARCH FEATURED MEMBER
Rhawnie Milliorn

Why did you join the JLCV?
I've always enjoyed volunteering and have had friends all over the country who have been members of the Junior League and have wanted me to join.  I was always hesitant due to the amount of time involved, with my travel schedule for work.  JLCV however turned out to be a little more flexible and was overall a great fit.  I also wanted to be surrounded by some power women, and there are some great ones in this group!

What's your favorite part of being in the League?
I'm a social person (hence me being the social chair), I love when we're all together working on projects.  It's like being at work with your favorite friends -- and the work is helping other people!

What are some other activities you do outside the League?
I love to go horseback riding, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and traveling.

What brought you to Vermont?
I moved here for my job; I sell textiles for a company headquartered in Montreal, and we have a factory here locally that I have an office in.

What’s your go-to restaurant?
Pho Hong -- I love Vietnamese food, there's is my favorite locally AND they are so nice!

What are you passionate about?
This might sound silly, but when I think about one thing that has been consistent with me my entire life, a passion, it's making other people feel good and happy.  I love putting smiles on people’s faces and brightening up their day, even if mine has been awful.
