Human Gesture through Time
March 14 and 15 8:15am-3pm
Eurythmy Spring Valley
260 Hungry Hollow Road, Chestnut Ridge, NY 10977
|
|
In this short course with Laura Summer we will look at gesture and figure in art. Starting from pre history times we will move through the history of art focusing on the gesture of the human figure. Using a variety of approaches of translation including the observation of painting and sculpture, gesture drawing, movement and sound we will wrestle with the question, “What is Art?”
This translation process will help us observe something that is non-substance in origin, non-material, but we can perceive it. The manifestation is the sculpture, painting, dance or music but that which is manifest is non-material.
No experience is necessary - the exercises are both playful and supportive.
Suggested contribution $0-150

Color – Gesture – Suggested Figure
Free Columbia Summer Course
With Laura Summer
July 8-12
at Hawthorne Valley School, Ghent NY
|
|
In this course we will explore the mood and gesture of color using the human figure as our suggestion point. What sort of gesture would blue inspire? What about red? We will work with movement exercises as well as some basic figure drawing. The majority of our time will be spent working with color, collage, poetry and other mixed media. No experience is necessary, all of the exercises will be taught and they are both playful and forgiving.
Free Columbia is a free cultural initiative based on an understanding of the importance of creating independent and accessible educational and artistic opportunities. There are no set tuitions. Suggested donation amounts based on what it costs to run courses are provided.
