NATIONAL MERIT FINALIST

Lake Hamilton High School senior, Jordan Erickson, was recently presented a certificate by LHHS Principal Donald Westerman for being named a National Merit Finalist.

Each year, about 1.6 million students take the PSAT. Of those who take the exam, about 16,000 earn scores that qualify them as Semifinalists (that's around 1%). This group is narrowed down to 15,000, who become Finalists. Of this group, about 7,500 are awarded scholarships of $2,500 a year (that can be renewed each year they are in college).

GRAB AND GO IS A HIT

Lake Hamilton High School students are taking advantage of a new "grab and go" breakfast option offered between 2nd and 3rd periods each day! The number of students who are eating breakfast has increased significantly (over 160 breakfasts were served this past Tuesday above the normal average). Big thanks to Chartwells and the high school staff for being so supportive of this new program!

COMPUTER SCIENCE HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTION

The Lake Hamilton High School computer science program held an induction ceremony for the first members of the Lake Hamilton High School Computer Science Honor Society this past week. The selection to the society was based upon students scholastic records and their exceptional performance in computer science.

It is a high honor to be chosen for CSHS. There are only 42 chapters in 12 states. Lake Hamilton High School is the first and only CSHS chapter in Arkansas. The LH local chapter of CSHS was granted in December of 2018.

The purpose of CSHS is to promote and recognize academic excellence and service among computer science students in secondary schools. It aims to do this by electing members on an honorary basis according to their proficiency in computer science and by engaging in activities designed to promote this dynamic field and scholarly development of its members.
