THE HIGHLIGHTS

House Dems are pulling out the magnifying glasses.

THE BACKGROUND.

Everyone’s heard about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump team. And how it’s already led to multiple indictments - and could be looking to wrap up soon. Enter: Dems. For years, they’ve been calling for more investigations into Prez Trump. Something Republicans weren’t interested in. But during the Midterms a couple months ago, Dems took the House of Reps - giving them the power to open up investigations galore. Scene, set.

THE HAPPENINGS.

Yesterday, the House Judiciary Committee said ‘hmm, this could be illegal’ and announced that they’ll be requesting important docs from Prez Trump’s oldest son, his biz, and oh, more than 60 different people on his team. Not much. All of this is apparently the start of new investigations into alleged “obstruction of justice...corruption, and abuse of power” courtesy of the Prez.

THE REACTION.

Big. Think about it: for years, Trump’s been tweeting non-stop about Mueller’s investigation - mainly, calling it illegitimate and a “witch hunt.” But everyone’s expecting that investigation to be over practically any day now. Now, House Dems are pinky promising to open up multiple new investigations. Meaning Trump’s investigation problems aren’t over yet.

SO…?

House Dems say it’s “very clear” Trump obstructed justice. TBD on whether the new investigations they’re looking to open prove it.

THE ACTION

USA: Recently, at least 23 people were killed after Lee County, Alabama was hit with two tornadoes within the span of an hour. Residents were reportedly only given a 5-minute warning before the “catastrophic” tornadoes swept through the area - the deadliest day for tornadoes in Alabama since 2011. Now, rescue teams are searching for all remaining survivors. In other news, everyone is talking about Stephon Clark. He’s the African American man who was shot and killed by police in his grandmother’s backyard in Sacramento after his cellphone was mistaken for a gun. Now, it looks like the police officers responsible won’t be charged. Intro protests.

POLITICS: All eyes are on the Senate. Reminder: last month, Prez Trump declared a national emergency to get funding for his wall on the US-Mexico border. Something Dems weren’t happy about. So recently, the House of Reps passed a resolution that’d put an end to Trump’s national emergency declaration. Then, over the weekend, it came out that the Senate apparently has enough votes to pass it, too. Unclear when the Senate plans on voting, but either way, Trump says he’ll veto it. Speaking of which, the US and South Korea just cancelled major military war games. Because, Kim Jong Un. And in other news, Trump and Prez Xi Jinping are reportedly planning on meeting up this month to talk the trade war. Tension, high.

WORLD: Yesterday, Google said ‘no way nope no not a chance’ and announced that they won’t be removing a Saudi gov app that lets men track women and control their travel. You read that right. The app’s led to global backlash, but Google says it doesn’t violate its term of service. Now, all eyes are on Apple to see whether they OK the app, too. Meanwhile, Estonia just headed to the polls. And elected the opposition party - while far-right support doubled. This comes as the far-right movement in Europe continues to grow. In other news, Algeria’s prez of 20 years just declared he’ll be running for re-election after facing corruption allegations and health issues. Cue backlash.

WHAT TO KNOW

SpaceX:” the biz that just docked the first commercial spaceship built for astronauts to the International Space Station. Out of this world.

SAY WHAT?

“Addicted parrots raid poppy farms” - an actual headline. Flying high.
