Festival 2019 - Programme

I am delighted to confirm that the programme for Festival 2019 has now been finalised.  The Festival will run over the weekend of 7 - 9 June 2019, based once again at the Springfield Community Campus in Beechfield Road, Corsham.  Following the opening ceremony at 1200 on the Friday, there will be three walks in the afternoon, with another twelve walks taking place each day on the Saturday and Sunday.  Please help us spread the word by printing and displaying our Save The Date poster.

In putting the programme together, we have been mindful of the feedback from previous Festivals, and the final programme includes some old favourites plus a number of new walks.  We have tried to cater for all ages and abilities with walks ranging in length from an easy 1.5 Childrens Treasure Hunt to a more challenging 19 mile walk taking in Brown's Folly Nature Reserve and Great Chalfield Manor.  Thanks to the generous support of our supporters, 9 of the 27 walks will be FREE - although donations will be very welcome!

New routes this year include a circular walk organised by Bradford on Avon WAW through the Avon and Frome valleys, a circular walk exploring the bounds of Corsham and a FREE Dog Walk.  Old favourites include walks from Corsham to many of the surrounding villages exploring the rich heritage of the Corsham area.  Younger walkers will be entertained by the Children's Treasure Hunt and the whole family can get together for the Murder Mystery Walk!

Due to popular demand, the Quiz and Buffet returns on the Saturday evening in the Springfield Community Campus.  Teams of 4 - 6 compete to win the coveted Golden Boots and after the model making exploits of last year I can't wait to see what our quizmaster has in store for us this year!  The ticket price includes an extensive buffet and there will be a licenced bar selling a range of beers, wines and soft drinks at very reasonable prices.

More details of all the walks and the evening event will be available on the Corsham Walking Festival website shortly and tickets will go on sale from 1 April 2019.  Tickets can be purchased online via the website or by calling/visiting Pound Arts Box Office.  Bookings for walks - including the FREE walks - need to be made in advance as there are only a limited number of places on each walk.  When booking for the Children's Treasure Hunt, you only need to book a place for the child/children taking part - not for any accompanying adults!

Walking Opportunities

The Corsham area provides walking opportunities all year round - whether self guided or with a local group.  The Corsham Bookshop and the Tourist Information Centre in Corsham High Street both have a small selection of booklets of local walks available for purchase and in addition there are a number of on line resources.

A number of national and local groups walk regularly in Corsham and the surrounding area and welcome new walkers.  If you do not walk regularly with the relevant group, it is advisable to contact them beforehand so they are aware of likely numbers on the walk.  More information - including contact details - can be found on the Corsham Walking Festival website or downloaded here

If you would like more information on forthcoming walks, join our Facebook Group.

Volunteering Opportunities

Currently we have just enough volunteers to provide Walk Leaders and Back Markers for our walking programme - but we could still do with having a couple of standbys to cover for any last minute problems.  If you want to know more about what is involved, please contact Sarah Keevil or Gill Fox

Shortly after tickets for the Festival go on sale, we will be seeking volunteers to help man our HQ at the Springfield Community Campus over the Festival weekend.  This is not a particularly arduous duty - the main role is to help book in the walkers prior to the start of the walk and be a point of contact at the HQ.  Please consider sparing a couple of hours to help spread the load.

Corsham Peacock Heritage Trails

A volunteering opportunity with a difference!  A new small team of volunteers is in the early stages of developing a series of circular heritage walks centred on Corsham that go to Biddestone, Box and Colerne.  The project is being taken forward with the enthusiastic support of the Cotswold Wardens and the Wiltshire Rights Of Way officers as well as a number of local historians who are contributing the heritage information.

They are now looking for other members to join the team; in particular to help the project by identifying and liaising with potential sponsors to provide the necessary funding.  Experience in this field is preferable - but not essential!  If you believe you can add benefit to this project and would like to be involved in any capacity then please contact Barry Cox at publicity@corshamwalkingfestival.org.uk

Best foot forward
