Lenten Season: A Time for Sacrifice

The holy season of Lent is a 40-day journey leading up to the Sacred Triduum. The traditional disciplines of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are opportunities for us to deepen our relationship with the Lord. Prayer involves giving time to God through praise, petition, and thanksgiving. Fasting helps us focus on God and not the things around us. Almsgiving allows us to share our resources and lighten the burden of others.

The extraordinary generosity and support of parishioners to Called to Renew demonstrates their commitment to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and their willingness to follow Christ's mission to lead people to the faith and to teach and help those in need. The campaign case for support reflects that mission in each of the case components.

Volunteers in Our Lady of Lourdes in Tujunga start outreach to fellow parishioners!

On Monday evening, Fr. Rolly Astudillo helped train his parish’s Ambassadors on how to visit with fellow parishioners. Ambassadors created more than 100 packets and distributed them. With volunteers making visits alongside Fr. Rolly, the parish is guaranteed to see an increase in participation in the coming weeks. Congratulations to the parish!

Congratulations and job well done!

Holy Family in Artesia raises $96,000 this week!

Six of these gifts came from families who have volunteered as Ambassadors and Campaign Executive Committee members. Holy Family is eager to get started on its parking lot expansion. Making phone calls and scheduling visits can be challenging with busy schedules. The Campaign Office suggests setting aside time each week that you can dedicate to this activity. Previous volunteers shared that reserving two or three hours a week to be at the parish office saves you time in travel. Ask your pastor if there is space at the parish to host your campaign visits.

One volunteer shared their Tuesday night schedule:

5:15p - Set up at the parish
5:30p - Make 30 minutes of phone calls to schedule visits for the following week
6:00p - Host an initial visit with the Smith* family
6:45p - Conduct a follow-up visit with the Doe* Family, whom I met last Tuesday
7:00p - Host an initial visit with the McKenna* family
7:45p - Conduct a follow-up visit the Green* family
