Congratulations to our juniors from State Titles

A big shout out to Travis Stubbs and Mystery Bennett who both did us proud at the Junior State Titles held last weekend.

Travis came in 21st out 300 competitors in the Under 12's Flags event and that is in the top 7% and solid effort, especially considering most competitors at this level just train, train and oh yes,  train in their surf-sports chosen event.  Congratulations Travis- you are awesome!

Mystery seems to be following in her family’s footsteps, winning gold in the Under 13 Flags Events and a Silver in the Beach Sprints.  Congratulations Mystery!

Great effort both of you!

We hope to clean up at the Tathra Carnivals as well as we did at our beach!

National Clean Up for Schools Day and Clean-up Day were held on Friday 1 and Sunday 3 March on Friday. Many of Nippers (and some parents) would have helped to collect several bags of litter from our beautiful beach.

On Sunday, Narooma LIONS Club did an emu bob from the Plaza to our Reserve near the Golfy and “C Patrol did another clean up around the beach and foreshores, as a day is a long time in litter terms it seems.

The main items found related to take away containers like pizza boxes, coffee cups and those white chip and fish boxes and plastic straws and a few aluminium cans.  Still a few cigarette butts around the benches, plus several lovely folk piled their own rubbish next the bags of rubbish left by the school students!

Tathra Carnivals: have you booked your accommodation?

It’s not too late to book accommodation for the upcoming Carnivals at Tathra on 23-24 March.   We need officials, water safety, age managers and general support, especially for Sunday’s Junior Carnival.

We have a title to defend being the Junior Branch Club Champions. Good luck to all of you

Save the date!  Fundraising Film Night for our Nippers Friday 29 March at 6.30

Narooma Kinema is hosting fund raising evening for our Nippers on Friday 29 March at Narooma Kinema.  The movie we are being offered is Dumbo- based on the children’s story about an elephant with superpowers and is great story for all to enjoy. Check out the trailer here:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NiYVoqBt-8

Join us to help raise money for our future live-savers so they too can soar to great heights.

Tickets are $20 and the SLSC gets $7.00 for each ticket sold.   If we fill the Kinema we will make $1400 by having a family night out! We will also be running a raffle with some great prizes on offer.

Last weekend of April school holidays is the last official Nippers event- presentation

Save this date too!

Saturday 27 April has been chosen for our Nippers Presentation due to the home game for football that weekend.

This year it will be held at Club Narooma. More details will be made available closer to the date, but make sure you make a note of the date: Saturday 27 April and the event is likely to commence at 5pm

Community Attitudes to Shark Management Focus Group

Narooma SLSC together with Eurobodalla Shire Council, were very well represented at a Shark Management Focus Group conducted by Charles Sturt University.  There were also representatives from the surfing fraternity, tourism and fishing and boating charter sector.

While what was discussed in the room stays in the room, the purpose of the group was gauge attitudes to particular management strategies in response to a series of possible scenarios involving sharks.

These scaled responses will be collected across the country and collated to form a point of reference for any management strategies that will be considered and implemented to ensure an outcome that is acceptable across the board under a range of circumstances.  It is a good example of community consultation and was very interesting for those who attended.

Board Training and Frothys on this Friday

Board Training is on from 4.30 and the bar will be open from 6pm afterwards. Bring your family own for a relaxed BBQ dinner and drinks by the beach- end of week no cooking at home!
