New WSU Grain Production Equipment Publication
A new WSU Extension publication includes case studies of three small-scale grain producers in Puget Sound, and provides information on the range of production equipment to add grain to diversified farm operations. Access the publication here.

Do you have wireworms?
The WSU Thurston County Extension is seeking farmer cooperators for a wireworm study in 2019. Cooperator farmers will make a small plot available, and WSU will evaluate trap cropping with wheat as compared to an organically-approved spinosad insecticidal bait and a no-management control. Farmland, Forest Land, Gravel Mining Codesignation - Comp Plan Deliberations
Thurston County is in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan to comply with new state laws, and to account for population growth through the year 2040. Information regarding co-designation of gravel mining and Ag land under deliberation by the Thurston County Agriculture Advisory Committee is available at this link. Soil testing program open in limited capacity
TCD is TCD is re-opening the Soil Testing Program on a limited basis until sufficient funding and staffing is available to open the program fully. Beginning immediately, the TCD soil testing program will be open for sample drop offs only on Wednesdays from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm. Results will be available 7-10 days after. Questions about how to take a sample or what the benefits of a soil test are? Contact Nicole Warren, Resource Technician.

Annual Prairie Grazing Field Day Scheduled for April 27th
This spring prairie grazing field day will be held at Colvin Ranch from 9am to 1pm, Saturday April 27th. Come learn about seasonal pasture management, rotational grazing, and grazing strategies to balance range management and prairie habitat conservation. Light refreshments will be served, please RSVP.
