Ignatian ladies conducting a world-first

Spotted in the Advertiser last week, Current Parent Professor Lisa Butler (centre) and Old Ignatian Dr Maggie Centenera (Class of 1996, third from left), two of the six female scientists from SAHMRI and The University of Adelaide who are undertaking a world-first research into Prostate Cancer and correct forms of treatment.

Undergraduate Award for Excellence

Congratulations to Old Ignatian, Sam Gold (Class of 2005, pictured right) who received the Undergraduate Award for Excellence supported by Roger and Helen Salkeld ($7,500 cash) at the 2019 Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition VIP Vernissage on 13 February. This is the top undergraduate award recognising the winner as an artist with a promising future.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Michael Floreani (Class of 1992, pictured second from the right) who was a part of the Bianco Precast team who received the “National Specialist Contractor of the Year” at The National Excellence in Building & Construction Awards 2018. These awards recognise the best building projects from communities around the country and the builders that constructed them across the residential, commercial/industrial or civil/infrastructure construction sectors. Well done to Michael and the team!

Back in OZ for the Fringe

Actor and Old Ignatian Sam Dugmore (Class of 2004) is back in Australia performing for the first time in 4 years as part of this year’s Adelaide Fringe. Sam will feature in the Cut Mustard production of “2100: A Space Novelty”, “Scotland!” and “Sir David and his Animals”.
Sam graduated from the Jacques Lecoq International School of Theatre in Paris in 2017 and has been living in Bristol in the UK for the past year playing the great British hero, Sir Isambard Kingdom Brunel in a moored steamship museum, the SS Great Britain.

Welcome Back Danielle

On Friday, 15 February Old Ignatian Danielle Seymour (Class of 2012) pictured above with Antony Bauzegave a passionate talk about her journey since leaving the College. 
Danielle is actively involved in the development of South Australia’s innovation ecosystem, working with government, educational institutions, private and public enterprise to raise broader public awareness of the opportunity inherent within the technological era. 
Danielle touched on many of the processes that the Business Innovation students will be embarking on this year as they develop an entrepreneurial mindset while taking an idea from imagination phase to a final pitch to a panel of judges in a venture showcase at the University of Adelaide at the end of Term 2. Many thanks to Danielle for her time.

Old Ignatian Architecture

Check out this Japanese microhome inspired “container house” built on Adelaide CBD’s smallest allotment, designed by Architect Damien Chwalisz (Class of 1992). 
The Owner, Mr van Gorp says the home’s bold design and innovative building method had been well received by his neighbours.

Annual General Meeting

On Tuesday, 26 February 2019 the Fidelis Association held their Annual General Meeting at the Junior School for their members and the community. Father Paul Mullins SJ was the guest speaker and spoke about the 150 Year anniversary of the Norwood Parish. Past parent, Anne Rohrsheim was awarded a Life Membership for her service to the Association. Formal proceedings were followed with a champagne supper.
