Film Screening: The Girls of Meru

Over five years, acclaimed filmmaker Andrea Dorfman follows the heartbreaking yet uplifting story of the girls of Meru and their brave steps toward meaningful equality for girls worldwide.Presented in partnership with Dalhousie University’s Global Health Office, International Development Studies & The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This film is one in a 3-part series celebrating International Women’s Day.

2019 Weld Kernohan Lecture: Dr.Ojistoh Horn
Thurs. Mar. 21, 2019. Indigenous Perspectives in Western Medicine. Dr. Ojistoh Horn is a Mohawk from the community of Kahnawake. She attended medical school at the University of British Columbia, then completed McGill's Family Medicine residency program with a fellowship in Maternal and Child Health.

PLANS Summer Porgrams: African Nova Scotian youth exploring careers in health.
Applications Due: May 3, 2019. African Nova Scotian students from across Nova Scotia who are interested in a career in health are invited to apply for these summer programs. Camps take place during the month of July in Nova Scotia.

Returning to the Birthplace of MicroResearch: 2 weeks in Mbarara, Uganda : Last month our Director, Shawna O'Hearn, traveled to Mbarara Uganda to help deliver a workshop on research skills and practice. While there is a high demand for training and learning about community-based research, there are few formal, structured training opportunities. Established in 2008, MicroResearch aims to add capacity to global community-based research by empowering communities to address their own unique health issues.......read more
