UTC1 Uganda
18 - 22 Feb. /  Uganda
A successful training week for the team in Masindi, Uganda during which, in addition to realtime training, we piloted a newly developed mobile application for FMD outbreak investigation to provide training in lesion ageing, diagnostic test selection, farm tracings and timeline creation. We also performed a qualitative risk assessment on one of the largest ranches in the area. All our pictures are on Flickr.
SIMULATION EXERCISES
SimEx  Serbia
19 - 21 Mar. / Novi Sad
As one of the pilot countries of the Guide to Exercises and Training (GET) Prepared Pathway, the Republic of Serbia has agreed to a national approach to simulation exercises with the assistance of EuFMD. This exercise will be a useful opportunity to test again the emergency preparedness capacity and response during an FMD outbreak. The Serbian Veterinary Directorate will cascade and share its simulation exercise experience with other countries at a future EuFMD Balkans Management Meeting.
SimEx  Spain & Portugal
12- 14  Mar.  /   J. de los Caballeros
To  increase preparedness for an FMD emergency, we encourage our Member States to undertake joint activities. Spain and Portugal are the first EuFMD MSs to implement this regional approach and next week, 70 vets from Spain and Portugal will be in Jerez  for a simulation exercise. The activities include in-house training, drill exercises run in farms on both sides of the border and an evaluation and feedback session. EuFMD supports this activity by providing trainers and logistics for the event.

WORKSHOPS
Post Vaccination Monitoring
18 - 22 Mar.  /  Tunis

A technical workshop on post-vaccination monitoring for Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia to share experiences and information on current approaches on FMD vaccination and PVM; to build capacity on evaluating FMD vaccination and post-vaccination monitoring, and strengthen networking among parties who are involved on FMD vaccination and PVM in the three countries and share experience at regional level.  See the PVM guidelines here.

Putting Vaccination into Practice
19 - 22 Mar.  /  Malaga

Participants from 18 countries will meet in Spain to take part in this workshop, designed by the EuFMD and three expert consultants. The outbreak scenario for this workshop was created with the EuFMDiS model. It is a residential workshop, with a series of seminars, facilitated discussions and group work sessions. The activities aim to enhance the knowledge and skills of participants on planning the implementation of emergency vaccination in a previously-free country setting, as a control measure for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks.

Progressive Control Pathway Support Officer (PSO) Training
26 - 28 Mar.  /  Ghana

The EuFMD aims to support progressive control of FMD through establishing and coordinating PCP Support Officers (PSOs). PSOs are expected to liaise with OIE delegates, points-of-contacts for PCP, Epidemiology and Laboratory to support and guide the veterinary authority to complete the PCP Stage and/or to progress FMD control along the PCP. Their support is usually tailored to the individual needs of the countries. This  workshop aims to develop relevant skills and impact knowledge on the approach taken by PSOs, making use of existing EuFMD training materials, including general PCP guidance and more specific materials aimed at particular PCP stages. We thank the FAO Regional Office for Africa (RAF) in Accra, Ghana, who is hosting the workshop.
