WEBINAR: STEM Pathways at Hispanic-Serving Community Colleges: The Illinois HSCCs Context
PRESENTERS
Angel L. Velez, HyeJin Tina Yeo, & Eboni M. Zamani-Gallaher, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
WEBINAR TOPIC
The most populous regions for Hispanic-serving institutions are the West Coast and Southwest. However, in the Midwest, the state of Illinois is an anomaly having the largest number of minority-serving institutions, the majority of which are Hispanic-Serving Community Colleges (HSCCs). Latinx students represent 25% or more of the total student population at these associate granting institutions. This webinar will share data on Illinois HSCCs and emerging HSCCs with attention to STEM pathways and degree completion. Findings from case studies of Illinois HSCCs and promising practices for broadening participation of Latinx students in STEM education will be discussed.
