Sunday Service - March 10th

Sermon title and details to be announced.

SPRING FORWARD!

Don't forget to change your clocks on Sunday morning for the end of Daylight Saving Time.

First Tuesday Social Justice Film Festival

TONIGHT at 7:00 pm

Every month, at 7:00pm on the first Tuesday, we screen a film focusing on an important social justice issue. We hope you'll leave inspired and ready to hit the road in your own quest for a better world.

This screening is cosponsored by the
Dallas Peace & Justice Center

Our First Tuesday screening this month will be a special presentation in conjunction with The Bully Project and the E.C. Stanton Community School. The school is also the beneficiary of this quarter's UUCOC Share the Plate program.

In his 2012 documentary BULLY, filmmaker Lee Hirsch examined five cases of young people who endured vicious persecution at the hands of their peers. Tragically, two of those five children (Ty Smalley and Tyler Long) committed suicide and a third teenager (Ja'Meya Jackson) landed in reform school after pulling a gun on the people who had bullied her for years.

Given serious reservations about the way in which the topic of suicide is handled in the film we will not be screening the full length theatrical version of BULLY. We will instead be showing & discussing a shorter classroom version of the film that features the story of Alex, a 14-year-old boy with Asperger's Syndrome, and Kelby, a 16-year-old girl who was bullied after she came out as gay. To the best of our knowledge, this version is suitable for children age 12 and above.

You can view a clip from the project here:

The Bully Project is the social action campaign inspired by the award-winning film BULLY. It has sparked a national movement to stop bullying that is transforming kids’ lives and changing a culture of bullying into one of empathy and action.

How Are Decisions Made?
Governance and Polity: This workshop provides an overview of congregational polity and covenant, the foundational principles upon which Unitarian Universalist congregations are gathered and continue to exist as institutions. It will focus not on the mechanics of congregational structure and governance, but, rather the spiritual underpinnings of those structures, highlighting the role and importance of membership in a congregation.

This is part of "The New UU" program. Please visit our Religious Explorations page for more details.

Do you have an unused purse?
Here's how you can put it to good use!

If you have an old purse you’d like to donate we’d love to share it with someone in need. We are also looking for donations of sanitary napkins, tampons, soaps, snacks and any other personal need item a woman might be able to use. Thank you for your help in sharing the love!

NOTE: We are grateful for all donations, but we ask that you not donate high-end purses, as they could cause the woman to become a target.
Listen better with busy hands?

If you’re someone who listens better when you’re hands are busy, please check out the basket at the back of the sanctuary. Add a few rows or start a new project! (Write down the stitches you used for the next participant.) Thank you!

Save the date:
UUCOC will have a booth at Oak Cliff Earth Day on April 14th!
