Hello,

News
I am currently in Istanbul until Friday. Since 2003, it's my third time in the city and I always discover more and more and I also see a big change since the first time I played here : more artists, more places where to perform and slowly more connections between the cities, especially Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. That doesn't mean that everything goes smoothly here but there are plenty of interesting pockets ; again and again, don't listen to what most media provide you. :)
Each time I go on tour, events happening during those tours push me to go further, explore more, come back again and again. This week, I gave a talk about electronic, noise and electroacoustic music in Asia and Africa, not the deepest ever but I insisted again about the importance of archiving as, too many events and composers from the past in Asia, Latin America, Africa and even at a lower scale Eastern Europe have rarely been included in the history of electronic music and those who were are exceptions. One of the attendees of the talk, Serdar Kökçeoğlu, is working on a documentary film about İlhan and Güngör Mimaroğlu :
Mimaroğlu - A Feature Documentary on the Life and Work of İlhan and Güngör Mimaroğlu, to be released in 2019.
"At the beginning of the 1960s, İlhan and Güngör Mimaroğlu moved from İstanbul to New York to start a new life. With a keen interest in avant-garde music, İlhan Mimaroğlu went on to become a leading composer of the nascent field of electronic music with his work at Columbia University, while Güngör Mimaroğlu would show an exemplary political stance at the forefront of the peace protests that took the 1960s by storm. "Mimaroğlu" is the story of a unique pair of spirits that have complemented each other in many ways."
Written and Directed by: Serdar Kökçeoğlu  Producers: Dilek Aydın, Esin Uslu Music Director: Erdem Helvacıoğlu
You can watch two teasers here and there, that looks extremely promising ! And a trailer here. There is also an Instagram page.

On tour
So this tour is far than being done, next step Singapore (no concert there), Ho Chi Minh (talk/workshop/concert at the Conservatory of Music and another concert), Hanoi (concert together with Lương Huệ Trinh, an excellent composer and musician with whom I collaborated several times in Vietnam, Germany and Denmark), Gam Troy Valley (at Dao Xuan Festival that will include more than 200 artists during 24 hours, organised by Đào Anh Khánh, who, thanks to composer and organiser Trí Minh, booked me in 2005 in Hanoi during one of the few noise performances that were happening back then). You can always check news about my events here.

Forthcoming African compilation
Since my tour in Africa this winter, I am working on a second compilation dedicated to artists from and in Africa including a small part of the diaspora. This will most likely be a double CD with an essay (the first compilation only dedicated to Africa I published in 2012, 30.2, is available for free/pay as you wish on Bandcamp, some CDs are also remaining. I was happy to publish that compilation but a bit frustrated to only have male composers and in the end too few countries (nine). This follow up will include various artists in the field of electroacoustic, noise, electronica, ambient, non-conventional hip hop and more from about 15 countries and a lot of women too. There are more than 50 countries in Africa but step by step...  Once more, I'm happy to have toured a part of the continent and met so many interesting artists ! So now, some of you may want to know which countries. Time will tell but I'm open to get some more contributions.

Radical music form takes the stage in Yangon by San Lin Tun
"The experimental music genre called “noise” took centre stage at the Myanm/art gallery in Yangon last week. Leading noise music exponent Indra Menus, headlined the event attended by a strong crowd. To be sure, the performance by the Jogja Noise Bombing artists collective founded by Indra, was greatly different from run on the mill band performances, whether local or foreign, held in Yangon.  Indra described the collective’s performances as something equivalent to graffiti bombing but with sound." Kehadiran Noise Bombing di kawasan Malioboro by Theo Nugraha (in Bahasa Indonesia, an article about the JNB Festival 2019)
