Message from the HABA Board:

HABA has some great events planned this year, and I'm so excited to share some with you in this newsletter. HABA is always expanding our services to our members, and that is why I am so excited to serve as your Secretary for the next two years. I confess, I am completely new to HABA—both as a member and as a Board member. I look forward to meeting all of our members and hope that more members will come out to meet your new Board, and attend the events we have planned. Most immediately, HABA is co-sponsoring a Minority Judges Reception hosted by the District of Minnesota's Judge Wilhelmina Wright. I am personally inviting all HABA members to attend and mingle with our minority judges in the state of Minnesota. Please RSVP to RSVP@mnd.uscourts.gov. I will be attending, so if you attend, please come introduce yourself!

LSAT Scholarship - apply by March 15, 2019!

HABA is accepting applications for its annual scholarship to fund a Law School Admission Test (LSAT) preparation course. Strong LSAT scores can lead to law school scholarships, highly competitive law school applications, and a greater likelihood of acceptance into law school. Additionally, HABA is committed to diversifying the legal field by aiding law school hopefuls at the earliest stages of their legal career. This scholarship is intended to remove the financial barrier of a LSAT preparation course for a potential law student. The scholarship will be a direct payment from HABA to a LSAT preparation course provider on behalf of the scholarship recipient (maximum of $1,400.00). The LSAT preparation course must be completed by December 31, 2019.

Immigration Law Basics: A Practice Guide for the Non-Practicing Immigration Lawyer

Our featured speaker is immigration law specialist and HABA member Mai Neng Moua. This CLE will be instructive on the basics of immigration law geared towards questions/concerns regarding this Administration's new policies.

The goal of this CLE is to give accurate information for a lawyer who does not practice immigration law to give sound advice to those potential clients who call you with questions.
