1. Federal Judge Tells Tardigrades, CBS Attorneys to Work Out Their Issues

Work it out, says federal judge Lorna G. Schofield to attorneys on both sides of the Tardigrades copyright lawsuit against CBS and Netflix.
  • The March 19 deadline's looming for game developer Anas Abdin to show a connection between Star Trek: Discovery's creators and the videogame from which he says they stole his ideas.
  • CBS' lawyers are stalling in turning over evidence to meet that deadline complains Abdin's lawyer, John Johnson, to the judge.
  • Schofield admonishes all the lawyers to follow her court's rules: You better confer in good faith over discovery disputes.
  • She orders them to talk it out by Wednesday. If that doesn't work then CBS owes her a written explanation by Friday.
  • Either way, everybody better show up before the judge next week for a status conference. So there.
The bottom line: CBS believes Abdin's lawyers are going on a fishing expedition in a desperate attempt to show Discovery's creators stole from the game developer. Abdin's attorney says the judge allowed them to investigate so CBS better cough up the goods. #StayTuned
COURT DOCUMENTS We've added links to this story on the AxaMonitor website to download the documents filed by Anas Abdin's lawyer he demonstrates CBS' stalling tactics. Check 'em out.

2. Read Burnett Attorney's Warning Letter to Peters

You can read the letter from Robert Meyer Burnett's attorney chastising Alec Peters for allegedly defaming Axanar's former director.
  • Don't bring a knife to a gun fight, the letter seems to be saying, because:
  • In his own lawsuit, Burnett may be able to justify a more damages done him by Peters than vice versa.
  • Also, your "unconscionably one-sided" settlement offer sucks (my word, not his).
  • You can read the full letter, along with the settlement offer.

Short Takes: What's it gonna take, Patreon? New Axanar broadcast fails to inspire further donations. Peters isn't doing the #MeToo movement or Axanar many favors.

Monitoring the Trek Monitors blogger sums up the revenue target Axanar's going to have to consistently hit to afford hanging onto its warehouse home in suburban Atlanta — especially if Alec Peters reverses course and tries to stay in the bigger facility.
  • YouTube superchats must bring in at least $300 per show for eight livestreams Peters will have to do each month.
  • The Ares Studio Patreon monthly pledges have to remain above $1,600.
  • Additional YouTube revenue from monetized videos will have to make up any shortfall. The MTM blog does the math.

Back to zero: You can see the dip in yesterday's growth numbers in this graph. Not even the night's Axanar: Confidential livecast spurred any new Patreon donations (click graph to view full size).
  • What happened to the report on donor tiers? The Patreon page used to report how many donors there were for each of Axanar's tiers (i.e., $2, $5, $10 and $20). Is this a Patreon technical issue, or have they been turned off on purpose? Go deeper »
ALEC PETERS hasn't turned out to be the best possible spokesman for the #MeToo movement. His personal acrimony toward rival Vic Mignogna is clouding his support for victims of sexual harassment and assault. This YouTuber sums it up: "I was a supporter of Axanar. Things have happened that have turned me against it. All of which have to do with Alec Peters." Go deeper »

In Case You Missed It …

Ummm… okaaaaay. Not that there's anything wrong with that. TrekMovie reports.

Two cast members announced for Picard show: Salvation star Santiago Cabrera is co-starring, along with Blindspot actor Michelle Hurd. From Deadline.com.

Star Trek Online's Foundry is headed for the slag heap. Cryptic Studios says it no longer has the in-house knowledge to keep the Foundry operating "at our quality standards." Sounds like someone retired or got a better job offer somewhere else. Mmorpg.com has something to say about it.

A woman is launching a Star Trek series for the first time. The Picard show's opening episodes will be directed by Hanelle Culpepper — a first for the half-century old franchise. You've likely seen her work on screen before. From StarTrek.com.
And finally… PIE! The official food of the AxaMonitor Facebook group is pie. Plus, I live in Seattle. So this story is germane. I swear. "This Seattle Baker is Designing Stunningly Beautiful Pies." Seattle Magazine sings the praises.
