LR Skills
Prepare for Success: Critical Skills Sets of Today's Executives

by Joel Hoomans,
Most of us began our careers either making widgets of some kind or selling widgets or delivering the services needed to make widgets work.  If our work with widgets was good enough, many of us got promoted into positions of management.   This created all kinds of issues in even the best organizations because widget making, widget selling and widget service delivery requires an entirely different skill set than management.

Whatever widget industry your career started with – manufacturing car parts, IT services, sales and retail, etc. – success is typically all about competencies like timely follow-through, execution, approachability, and customer focus. However, once in management the competency paradigm shifts.

The Role of the Manager

LR Recap- Health Care Day

LR2019 Healthcare Day was hosted by St John's in the Wintergarden at Brickstone on Elmwood Avenue.  We are grateful to LR Alumna, Jennifer Lesinski, Vice President of Marketing, who hosted our program at their beautiful venue.  This year, class and alumni ended with a nice social hour at Joey B's restaurant located on site.

The day hosted Dr Bridgette Wiefling, Senior Vice President at Rochester Regional Health who spoke about the changing landscape of health policy and care. Panel speakers discussed the new efforts to improve community health.  Dr Giangrecco, Chief Medical Officer from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, shared insights about their new efforts to map clinical variations in care across geographies The program launched originally in Michigan and has been brought to our region to help understand care. Dr Elizabeth Meeker from Coordinated Care Services shared research about working with children and adults who've suffered adverse experiences.  After the class member site visits to health providers, the class met with the CEO's and Directors of the organizations to gain a greater understanding of community health practices. St Joseph's Neighborhood Center, Jordan Health Center, and Rochester Behavioral Health Clinic were each represented in this healty discussion.  All are doing amazing work for the community  The Health Care Program Day class was graciously supported by Excellus  BlueCross BlueShield who sponsored the program day.
