The Perfect Place News

Welcome to the March 2019 issue of the WBBROC newsletter.  Don't forget that the WBBROC website www.wbbroc.org.au also has up-to-date information about our organisation, projects and events.

Water Price Rises

WBBROC is very concerned about the potential social and economic impacts of the proposed price rises for water in the Wide Bay Burnett Region.  The Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) is conducting a Water Pricing Review and considering recommendations from Sunwater and SEQwater of price rises of up to 174%.

These proposals are for increased bulk water pricing for the next 5 years as well as the recovery of dam safety improvement costs for Bjelke Petersen, Waruma and Fred Haigh dams from irrigators.

WBBROC resolved to make a detailed submission to QCA.  The proposed price rises would have a severe impact on economic development, employment and agricultural productivity in the region.

The WBBROC submission supports the responses of a wide range of stakeholders across the Wide Bay Burnett and proposed a balanced approach to cost recovery in context with the region’s “capacity to pay” and the wider social and economic impacts of price rises.

New Regional Sports Plan

Thanks to the financial support (a 75% contribution) of the Queensland Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing, we now have a new Regional Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Strategy for the Wide Bay Burnett region.  You will find a copy of this report on our website; https://wbbroc.org.au/Committees/Sport-Recreation

Sporting organisations throughout the region were consulted on this strategy and the recommendations included in the final document will help justify future funding bids by both Councils and sporting organisations.

WBBROC Moves Office

After five-and-a-half years in the Old Bank Building in Gympie (thanks to the generosity of Gympie Regional Council), WBBROC has moved to a new location.  Steve Brown, Josh Dyke and Joe Veraa are now working from Shop 4, 28 Reef Street, Gympie (please note, for the time being, our postal address will not be changing).  Andrew Bryant is still based in Gayndah.

If you are in town, please feel free to come and visit us.
WBBROC also welcomes our new Administration Officer, Amy Malone.  Amy will remain based in the Old Bank Building in Gympie, as she works for both WBBROC and Gympie Regional Council.
