Vacancy ASH director

Vacancy Postdoctoral researcher ‘Refugees and Early Modern States’

ASH currently has a vacant Postdoctoral position as part of the NWO-funded VICI Project The Invention of the Refugee in Early Modern Europe, led by professor Geert Janssen. Deadline is 25 April. Read more

Funding awarded for Time Machine

The European Commission has chosen Time Machine as one of six proposals to develop a large-scale research initiative. The European Time Machine project will receive 1 million euros in funding to prepare a detailed roadmap of the initiative. Time Machine’s goal is to design and implement advanced new digitisation and artificial intelligence technologies (AI) to mine Europe’s vast cultural heritage – its historical ‘big data’. Claartje Rasterhoff and Juia Noordegraaf are coordinating the Amsterdam Time Machine. Read more

Presentation HERA Project by Christian Noack. The HERA project “The European Spa as a Transnational Public Space and Social Metaphor” sets out to rethink the spa as a core concept and object of European debate. It investigates how the European spa, with its characteristic institutions such as the Kurpark, sanatorium, grand hotel and casino, developed into a transnational public space and functioned as a stage for the negotiation of political, social and cultural issues of European relevance. Read more

Grant news and upcoming deadlines

Open Call: Joint Seed Grant Amsterdam Centre for Cultural Heritage and Identity (ACHI) and Centre for Urban Studies (CUS)

In this call grants will be awarded of between €2.500 and €5.000 per grant, up to a total call budget of €20.000. With a well-developed argument grants higher than €5.000 can be also considered. These Seed Grants are provided to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue between urban scholars in the humanities and in the social sciences, and to stimulate original research in the field of Urban Studies. In particular, we aim to enable exchange and collaborations between researchers from the Amsterdam Centre for Cultural Heritage and Identity (ACHI), the Amsterdam Centre for Urban History (ACUH), the ASCA Cities Project and the Centre for Urban Studies (CUS). Laskaridis Visiting Research Fellowships in Modern Greek Studies

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam invites applications for three visiting research fellowships in the field of Modern Greek Studies for early- and mid- career scholars who wish to pursue (part of) their research at the University of Amsterdam. For the academic year 2019-2020, 1 fellowship will be offered for a period of 8 months and 2 fellowships for a period of 4 months each. he deadline for applications is 31 March 2019.  Read more

Cutting Edge Research Fund | Call for proposals reopened

As of 1 September 2018, the UvA FGw Cutting Edge Research Fund will be reopened. 

Applications can be submitted continuously until no later than 30 June 2019. Furthermore, the call’s scope has been widen for Research Fellowships, now also enabling applicants to prepare an application by a consortium in the context of the Dutch National Research Agenda (NWA) and the Dutch Top Sectors. NWO Matchmaking events - Dutch National Research Agenda

Researchers who are employed at Dutch knowledge institutions can submit proposals for the organisation of matchmaking events, within one or more of the 25 routes of the Dutch National Research Agenda (NWA) from the portfolio for Research and Innovation. The purpose of the Matchmaking events is to form (new) consortia across the entire knowledge chain and developing proposals for innovative research. For each initiative, a maximum of € 10,000 can be applied for. Read more
