Finding Peace

Laurie Lee, RScP

As a practicing Buddhist meditator, I have long concentrated on being more aware of my reactionary thinking and behavior. I have had some profound experiences during meditation of realizing that it is finding that gap between encountering a situation that I may label as negative and responding into automatic reaction. Finding or creating a "Gap" between these two, is what the Buddha taught was true freedom.

This is what I teach male inmates at Boulder County Jail classes, something so essential for the guys who need to learn to not immediately react to their feelings and thoughts and choose a different response from a more centered place. But who of us can't benefit from this practice?

Eckhart Tolle teaches that most negativity arises from our reaction to something or someone, a judgement or aversion to that thing. If you take a deeper look, it is our reaction to a situation that causes our suffering the most. Others teach "Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional". That means there is a way to end our suffering!...

Third Thursday Spiritual Forum

Mantra Meditations with a Master

Thursday, March 21
7:00 - 8:30 pm

Meditation is an ancient practice that is an integral part of a spiritual life and is advocated by all spiritual traditions in one form or another. Meditation quiets the mind, reveals one’s essential nature, and allows the soul to hear the whispers of Sacred Spirit. In this presentation, Ray Wynfield will give an overview of meditation practices and its benefits, and then lead attendees through several Mantra Meditations. He will start with Neti, Neti, a classic Hindu meditation roughly translated as Not this, Not that, which brings one face to face with one’s essential nature. He will then introduce several Chakra Meditations, each of which has a series of mantras leading one deeper and deeper into the virtues associated with that Chakra. Handouts of the mantras will be provided. Refreshments and opportunity for interaction with Ray and other attendees will follow the meditations.

Presenter Biography. Ray Wynfield has spent the better part of his life heavily involved with practicing and teaching meditation. He first became possessed by meditation in college fifty years ago, after finding that the common youthful trio of drugs, sex, and rock-n-roll were vacuous and unfulfilling. After graduation, he then spent most of the next decade of his life meditating and studying texts on metaphysics and meditation, much of that time in seclusion in a remote cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Meditation not only saved his life, it gave him a life. A calm, peaceful, and happy life. He has been teaching meditation at Unity, Science of Mind, and other churches throughout the country for thirty years. He currently leads a weekly meditation group at Columbine Unity in Lafayette.

Spiritually Guided Social Uplift Ministry

Session #1
Wednesday March 27, 6:30 pm

The Association for Global New Thought (AGNT) Releases New Curriculum for New Thought Centers:

Spiritually Guided Social Uplift Ministries

Approaching the issues of the day with a spiritual focus that transcends the polarizing political agenda that can discourage churches from engaging, AGNT's new Spiritually Guided Social Uplift Ministries (S.U.M.) is here. At last, New Thought takes a leadership role in offering our own signature curriculum based on New Thought principles.

At CSL Boulder Valley, we'll be meeting the 4th Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm at the center to learn, discuss, and explore.  The sessions in March, April and May will be devoted to the first module, Gun Responsibility and Healing Violence.  This is a powerful curriculum and the CSLBV sessions will be facilitated by Reverend Jyoti and Practitioner Kelly Robbins.  Love offering.  You can contact them for more information. To help in planning, you are asked to register: click here to register for Session #1.

The 2019 curriculum features four of nine modules:

•    Gun Responsibility and Healing Violence

•    Religious Diversity and Inclusion

•    Healing Racism and Upholding Ethnic Fairness

•    Homelessness and Poverty

In 2020, the remaining five modules will be offered:

•    Climate Truth

•    Women's Issues and Rights

•    Immigration and Refugee Rights

•    Health Care

•    Gender and Sexual Identity & Expression

By following the leadership of communities most affected by injustice, Spiritually Guided S.U.M. models restorative justice and builds capacity for social change because we know that “the Whole is Greater than the S.U.M. of its Parts.”

March Outreach

Benefit for Our Dearest Leanne Goff!

Walk to the Edge of Science with Leanne!

Neuro Ananda is a 501c3 with the purpose of fundraising for brain cancer research. Our goal is to assist Leanne Goff as she walks to the edge of science bridging research between Duke University's Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center and the developments in bio-genetic engineering at Cegat in Germany. The treatment available in Germany has the potential to save Leanne's life and in doing so will bring this treatment further into the light for the scientists at Duke who are looking to bring the trial into official status with the FDA. In our fundraising we will all be furthering the process between Duke, Cegat and the FDA bringing forth this cutting-edge treatment, making it available to patients throughout the United States.

How can we help?
  • Donate airline miles – go to neuroananda.org
  • Donate money - all donations are tax-deductible
    • Contribute cash in ‘offering’ envelopes and mark it ‘Neuro Ananda’
    • Put a check in the Offering Basket. Make checks payable to CSL Boulder Valley with ‘Neuro Ananda’ in the memo line
    • Make checks payable to Neuro Ananda and put them in the jar in the lobby
    • Go to neuroananda.org to donate through PayPal
Thank you for making a difference!

Goodsearch and Goodshop

Raising money for CSLBV the easy way

Goodsearch

Every time you use Goodsearch for your internet searches, they make a donation to your favorite cause. You’ll set up an account with them (your Goodshop account works here) and select Center for Spiritual Living Boulder Valley so they know who to send the money to. Use the search box on their homepage or download a Good To-Go browser add-on to search the Internet just like you normally would. Where does the money come from? Search engines make most of their money from their advertisers.  Goodsearch has patented a way to track and direct these search-generated proceeds to causes. In other words, a portion of advertiser dollars (and not your own!) earned as a result of your search, are now passed along to the organization you've chosen to support. To sign up:

Goodshop

Goodshop is an online shopping mall that donates a percent of your purchases to your selected cause. You’ll set up an account with Goodshop, which keeps track of the amount raised and the cause you want it to go to. To set up an account or to log in, click here. Once you’re in, browse Goodshop for your favorite store. Find a coupon code or deal, or click over to the store’s website from Goodshop and shop as you normally would. Copy the code on the pop-up, and paste the code at checkout. It doesn’t cost anything extra. Where does the money come from? The online stores pay a referral fee to Goodshop. They give half of the fee as a donation to your selected cause.

We Are Open and Affirming

A Position Paper from the Home Office

Centers for Spiritual Living’s open and affirming response to the United Methodist Church vote to exclude LGBTQIA Clergy and deny marriage to their LGBTQIA members.

We believe Oneness and Wholeness is the very nature of the Infinite, Omnipresence Divine Reality - God. Our philosophy, the Science of Mind, accepts and includes all life, all beings, and all creation as the very Body of God. We celebrate the diversity of life as the expression of the Infinite Nature and revel in the impulse of Love that bursts forth in every aspect of Life – from the different flowers in the backyard, to the variety of trees in our forests, fish in the seas, birds in the air, and animals that roam our lands. This is the expression of the Infinite, infinitely loving creation in all its glory. As the ancient mystic in the Hebrew creation story, Genesis, teaches us all creation is originally blessed, for “it is good”.

Because of this deep faith in our oneness with all life, Science of Mind and Centers for Spiritual Living are open and affirming. We not only accept, we celebrate our uniqueness and our diversity, including LGBTQIA in our communities, we affirm our LGBTQIA clergy and we support all our clergy performing same sex marriage...
