How to Open

There is an impulse in all of us to open to life, and to be who we are. It is energetic, not logical, and it pulses through us at all times. In fact, if you take a moment right now, you’ll notice that the impulse is there -- in every cell of your body. Give it a try.

This impulse finds unique expression through each of us. It calls us toward something just beyond the known, just beyond our ability to describe. “Why” does not apply to this energy; it simply is.

Society wants a why, but you simply are

I invite you to let yourself off the hook, and imagine what it would be like if you didn’t need to know who, what or why you are. To let yourself be drawn to that intuitive impulse to be yourself, to love what you love, and to move towards it with an open heart.

“Why” serves many useful purposes in this world, but when it comes to who you are and what moves you towards your deepest wish, it has never, ever been up to the task.

"Queer Asterisk Voices" will feature writing from QA staff and community members to amplify our unique and valuable perspectives. These writings reflect the opinions and experiences of the writer and do not necessarily speak for Queer Asterisk as an organization. We value diversity in perspective, expression and life and hope to offer a platform for queer and trans folks to share their experiences and insights with the larger community.

Queer Writing Group is a space for queer & trans folks to share dedicated time for writing together. Whether you are a published writer, or brand new to writing, you are welcome in this group.

This is not a space for critique, or a place to workshop pieces you've already written. It's an opportunity to create new work, be impacted by one another's words, and hone the uniqueness of each of our writing voices.

"Writing as an art form belongs to all people, regardless of economic class or education level. A writer is someone who writes."
-- Pat Schneider

Food, Bodies & Liberation
April 6th, 2019
10-2pm
Queer Asterisk Boulder - 2027 Broadway, Suite E. Boulder, CO 80302

Do you long to feel free — every day — in your body?

Just as our social relationships can become toxic and harmful, so can our connection to food. To survive, we need each other and need to eat. This workshop will share energetic healing practices that help to shift and reweave these relationships in our bodies.

This workshop is open to all bodies and all genders and will provide a confidential space to explore how our bodies navigate eating and food for survival, using energy healing, storytelling and guided meditation. As we move towards greater liberation in our bodies, we are freed up to more joyfully create connections that feed and nurture us deeply.

This workshop is led by Syd Yang, who will also be pulling stories from their latest memoir: Release: A Bulimia Story, to highlight the importance of our intersections for designing a path forward in recovery. The work is rooted in a liberation, social justice + anti-oppression framework.

The retreat space will provide a variety of healing practice that will offer up rest and contemplation — as well as movement and action, in both individual + group spaces.

Lunch provided.

Cost: sliding scale (see registration for details)
