Teen Leadership Retreat
This year’s Teen Leadership Retreat is going to be held at Camp Kiwanilong in Warrenton, Oregon on April 5 - 7, 2019 (Friday evening, all day Saturday and home Sunday morning).
The Camp Committee is planning programs and events that will enhance your leadership skills, and give you some insight into the 4-H Summer Camp Program and its opportunities. They are also planning an evening of fun and exciting activities.
The cost is $60.00 per person; this includes food, lodging, and program supplies.  Large scale transportation will not be provided.  A list of what to bring, health form and other information will be sent to those who register.  Registration deadline is March 25, 2019.
For those who are considering serving as 4-H Summer Camp Counselors, this is a great opportunity for you to learn skills that will assist you at camp.  It will allow you to begin building bonds with others who may also be at camp and will give the Camp Committee opportunity to see you in action.  So, attend this retreat and get a jump on your Leadership development summer camp plans.

Horse Committee Meeting
The next Horse Committee meeting is on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 6:30 PM at the OSU Extension Service.  This is a week earlier due to scheduling conflicts.
EVERYONE Horse is encouraged to attend!  The April Horse meeting is going to be different! We are trying a new format for this meeting and if it works, we may adopt it for other meetings and even other 4-H committee groups.
For this meeting we want to fill the room with anyone that is involved with the Columbia County 4-H Horse Program. You can be a 4-H member, parent or grandparent of a member, 4-H Leader, volunteer or someone that is assisting with the program in a special way. In small groups everyone will get to tell their “Story” about their experience with the 4-H Horse Project/Program. There will be focused conversation questions and a little note taking. I believe that this change will make a difference, and that you will benefit from being a part of it.
I can PROMISE this will NOT be the everyday, boring, “why did I come?” committee meeting. What I can’t promise is just how amazing it’s going to be and how much more connected you will feel when you leave the room. That’s really up to you and how you engage and share with your group.  We will have a very brief program update at the end, but NOT your everyday committee meeting.  Please save the date and plan to come and be part of this very exciting process!

Camp Counselor Interviews
If you are in grades 9-12, the Camp Committee wants to visit with you.  You may be just the person they are looking for to supervise 5 to 7 campers during the four-day, three-night, fun-filled, all-expenses paid Summer Camp.  Those in grade 8 can apply to be a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) or Camp Staff.  If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please apply.  The applications are due on Friday, April 12, and the interviews will be April 22 & 23.

Small Animal – Road to County Fair
Please plan to attend this great educational opportunity for small animal members, parents and leaders on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 9 AM to Noon at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in St. Helens.  We will cover everything you need to know for County Fair, and everything returning 4-Hers will want to know, too (biosecurity, breed identification, practice showmanship, how to bring animals up to the show table, animal care, herdsmanship expectations, and more).  Senior 4-Hers will have opportunities to lead workshops with new members.
Parents and new leaders are strongly encouraged to attend so you will know what to do at County Fair.  The registration fee is $5 by Friday, April 19, 2019. After April 19 the fee will be $15.  Please preregister!
New this year, we are having a Clothing Swap.  This will be a great way to help other members and potentially help you find the perfect outfit for County Fair.  If you would like to donate your outgrown show clothing, you are welcome to bring to the OSU Extension Service before the event.  Otherwise you can bring with you to the fairgrounds the morning of the event.

mEGGa Egg Hunt Petting Zoo
The mEGGa Easter Egg Hunt Petting Zoo is Saturday, April 20th at the Sheep barn at the Columbia County Fairgrounds. All participants need to be there at 8am to sign in and set up.
We are looking for 4-H members who are willing to participate in the petting zoo both with animals and without. Animals we would like you to bring are listed but not limited to that. Members without animals can be very helpful by assisting others and there will be extra animals there they can participate with.
Due to an accident in a past year volunteers/4-H kids not signed up in advance will not be able to participate.  Please let us know if you will be attending, even if you’re not 100% sure so that you will still be able to. The deadline to sign up in Monday, April 15th.
