Sever Flooding in our City! Please Pray!
Starting Saturday night heavy rains triggered several rock/land slides that created severe flash flooding on both sides below the hill we live on. Several neighborhoods close to our house have been destroyed. An estimated 4000 people are without out homes. About 1800 refugees are in a complex right by our house and we are busy helping. Death toll is high and climbing. Nine of our Wycliffe families have.relocated, several of them were flooded out but all are safe. Other Missions groups have reported the same. Rivers have changed and are flowing through town moving massive amounts of dirt. Sunday night had more heavy rains and flooded new areas. It's now Tuesday morning here and we had heavy rains again last night.
Beth and I were on a date that first night, away from the flooding area, and the kids were home alone. We couldn't reach our house so Beth stayed at a friend's house and Courtney walked home after the flooding subsided. He arrived home after midnight to find some women and children taking shelter in our car port. Over a thousand people came up our hill from both sides seeking shelter. We let the ones in our carport in for the night and have been busy helping people since then. Every one has been working hard to help. Missions orgs, churches, Government, Military, Local Universities etc. Please be praying for all affected and wisdom for leadership decisions with so many displaced people to care for. Also be praying that this tragedy will help unite our community that has a history of tensions between various groups.
The video below is of the road to our house the first morning when I picked Beth up from our friends house.
