TECH: Yesterday, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp were hit with a partial outage that affected users around the world. It’s reportedly the biggest outage the apps have ever faced. Now, it looks like the outage could be ending after lasting over 14 hours. Speaking of which, Facebook’s now under criminal investigation for its data deals with big bizes like Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft. Hint: the deals let the bizes see users’ friends and contact info - among other personal data - without always asking consent. And hundreds of millions of users have been impacted. You read that right. In other related news, Spotify’s pointing fingers at Apple for their control of the App Store. And says it unfairly affects competitors.
POLITICS: Recently, Paul Manafort - as in Trump’s former campaign chairman - headed to court for a sentencing hearing. And was given an additional 3.5 years in prison - totalling up at 7.5 years. Then, minutes later, a judge charged Manafort with 16 counts related to mortgage fraud, conspiracy, and falsifying biz records - charges that can’t be pardoned by the Prez. Plot twist. Speaking of which, the Senate just voted - for the second time - to stop helping Saudi Arabia with their war in Yemen. Going against Prez Trump. Meanwhile, recently, a building collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria, killing at least 8 people. Now, Nigeria’s gov is under fire for a lack of building regulations. In other news, at least 8 people were killed and many wounded after two gunmen opened fire on a school in Brazil. The gunmen - who are dead - reportedly attended the school. Now, investigators are searching for a potential motive.
