From the

Headmistress
Dear Parents

Congratulations to all those who have taken part in the Grantham Music Festival, as an individual or as a group; and thank you parents who were able to watch the choir and band on Tuesday afternoon and support your child by taking him/her down to the individual classes at the festival.  This festival has been running in Grantham for 57 years and it is a privilege to enter groups of children and support this event. Our children gain in confidence and self-esteem from their performance.

Our stunning school band won their class and our wonderful choir was placed second.  We are delighted with both results.

I know James won his piano class this morning and please send in any certificates/cups for our Wednesday assembly so we can celebrate every child's success.  It does take courage to perform in front of an audience, and we are very proud of all those who have chosen to take part.  Well done.

We look forward to the Junior Inter-House swimming gala on Monday.

Enjoy the weekend
Kinds regards

Mrs K.A Korcz

Grantham Prep Display at Brick Kiln Place

Pre-school have been asked to put a display up in the main foyer at Brick Kiln Place. Mrs Sellers went down on Tuesday and put up our display in super quick time! One resident mentioned to Mrs Sellers when looking at the display and photographs, 'that reminds me of our friends from Grantham Prep'.

Hopefully they will get a lot of pleasure from our display. We hope to go again on 26th March.

Grantham Music Festival
Grantham Music Festival

On Tuesday afternoon the school band and choir went down to ChristChurch, Finkin Street to take part in the Grantham Music Festival. Both the band and the choir performed with passion and pride, making the most of the incredible venue. The band secured 1st place for their performance whilst the choir achieved a well deserved second place, competing in a very strong class. A huge thank you to Mr Giles for all his hard work with the band and to Dr Williams for his continuing support with the choir. I would also like to say thank you to all my other colleagues who make performing at these events possible, whether helping to transport pupils, supervising at the event or those ensuring the day back at school runs smoothly.

Congratulations to those children who took part in individual classes, James, Class 6, Lillian, Class 5 and Phoebe J Class 4, all coming away with first place certificates.

A very proud Miss Linehan.
Colsterworth Festival
Junior Drama Group performs at Colsterworth Festival

The Junior Drama group performed at the Colsterworth Performing Arts Festival on 1st March, presenting a well-crafted inclusive piece entitled 'News Report'. The children from years 3 to 6 had written the script themselves from work that they had devised over 4 weeks of club time.

We were all very proud of their achievements; winning 2nd place. The judges were impressed with their "effective establishment of the scene", " engaging content" and commented on how well the scenes flowed from one to another. We are hoping to be able to share the piece at the forthcoming Open Morning.

Well done!

Inter-House Swimming Gala

Our annual Inter-House Swimming Gala will take place on Monday 18th March at the Meres swimming pool at 1.30pm until 2.30pm. Spectators are most welcome but if there were 8 willing volunteers to help with timing that would be wonderful. If anyone would like to help please contact the PE Department as soon as possible to indicate your interest.
Cross Country at Copthill

The Cross Country team went off this week to take part in the annual Copthill meeting which takes place in fantastic rural countryside with Burghley House looming in the distance.

For the first part of the course the wind was strong and runners had to cope with both a following and head wind. After entering through the dark wood, bright sunshine, horse jumps and straw hurdles challenged the teams. Each year group set off with great hope, but the testing hurdles took their toll. Pippa (yr3) just missed a top 10 finish coming in an incredible 15th place. Harry (yr4) squeezed into the top 10 by finishing 9th, which considering at the three quarter stage he was around twenty first, that was also a great result. Hattie (yr4) and Georgie (yr6) were our only medalists finishing 5th and 2nd respectively. Both these girls have finished in the top 5 of their last 2 outings.

Congratulations to all those children who challenged themselves, and won.

Mr Park

U 11 Football v Wellow

On what can only be described as an extremely windy afternoon Grantham Preparatory’s Under 11 football teams took to the pitch. The B team started looking to make most of home field advantage. Periods of good play followed, but the wind played its part preventing the team getting up field. Good defending from Alex and Charlie and an excellent save, low to his left, from Thomas the goalkeeper, kept the game 0-0 at the interval. The second half saw the wind again play its part, but in favour of the hosts, as the team began to find their attacking flair. Good play from Tozi, Elijah and Aidan created an opportunity for Georgie, who neatly slotted the ball into the net. A second goal was added late on from a good curling finish from Elijah. The Grantham team coming out on top 2-0.

The C team took to the field looking to emulate their friends and continue the winning ways. The hosts started positively taking a two goal lead early on, after two excellent finishes from George making the best use of the conditions. A spirited fight back saw the visitors claw the game back. With the wind clearly now in the visitor’s sails the home team had to dig in deep with good defending from Samy, William and Theo keeping the game level. A string of saves from Edward early in the second half and a good goal keeping clearance set up a break away chance, which was neatly taken by George, who completed his hat-trick showing great composure. However, the narrow lead unfortunately did not last long with the visitors again finding a goal to equal the scores. With not much time remaining the game petered out to a competitively fought out 3-3 draw.

Mr Tranter

Under 11 A  Netball v St Hugh’s

To say it was windy on Wednesday afternoon, as the girls welcomed the team from St Hugh’s is an understatement. Despite the weather, both teams were very eager to play the match.

Grantham quickly realised that long overhead balls were not the order of the day and began to use very accurate and quick bounce passes to move the ball around the court.

Although St Hugh’s showed some determined defending, it was Grantham Prep's wonderful teamwork and outstanding personal performances that enabled us to win the game. A very creditable score line of 11- 0 was achieved.

Well done girls.

Miss Linehan
U11 B Netball v St Hugh's

All the girls started the game with lots of enthusiasm despite the extremely strong winds.  It was a difficult opening when St Hugh's scored the first goal, but the team rallied round and Isla had scored 2 goals by the end of the first half.

With the wind blowing many shots away from the net, tenacity paid off as the girls carried on with great determination with Millie and Isla scoring a goal each in the second half.

Orla and Georgina defended well through the match whilst the Centre and Wing Attack was covered well by Aurore and Hannah.

The final score TGPS 4-1 St Hugh's

Well done girls!

Mrs Ives
U10 Netball - Stamford School

The U10’s partook in a three way fixture at The Stamford Endowed Schools on a very blustery Wednesday afternoon, thanks to storm Gareth.

The first match was against Laxton juniors. The score at half time was 2-0 to Laxton. The wind was blowing the ball out of play continuously and the strong cross gusts challenged our shooting skills! However, roles were reversed in the second half of play and we equalled Laxton’s score with two consecutive goals in the first five minutes of play.

Final score: A draw 2-2

The second match was against Stamford Juniors. The girls were slightly out skilled in this game, and the Stamford girls had benefitted from a break between their matches.

The girls however lost their focus. They tried to throw the ball overhead, which wasn’t wise in such windy conditions. They didn’t use their speed and agility as practised to create a space to throw the ball into, with either a short chest or bounce pass.

This mistake cost us the match because the opposition seized this opportunity to intercept our loopy passes. Stamford retained possession of the ball and scored successfully. Let’s learn from this girls as I know that you can do this, especially after such brilliant results in worse conditions in Staffordshire.

Final score: 2-0 to Stamford.

News from the School Band

Our Grantham Prep School Band has had an incredibly successful couple of weeks.

We came first at the Colsterworth festival, and first at the Grantham Music Festival too.

We were up against some pretty stiff competition at both of these competitions, but our team work and preparation helped secure two first places.

Our programme was two fantastic numbers. First was the Blues tune “Jammin’ with Charlie”

Another first here, we featured improvised solos over the chord changes. The students really flourished, understanding how they have more musical freedom and fun.

So a very special mention and pat on the back for James D, Yuvan B and Tozi M who all showed confidence and style on all of their performances.

The school band meet every Friday morning at 0830 and I put them through their paces. The students then take the pieces home and practise, and then we put it all together for their performances.

I am so incredibly proud of each and every band member and hope to see you all supporting us at Belton Horse trials on Saturday 30th March where we’ll be performing at 1300hrs on the Community stage.

Also, it is ABRSM grade season, so please encourage and motivate those taking exams to keep practising. It's not an exam just on pieces. There are loads of points for sight reading, scales and aural tests!

Well done guys…and remember…”It’s not what you play, but how you play it!”

News from IES/SEK Schools
We share natural resources

Sharing the planet is our transdisciplinary theme in fifth grade. In this unit of inquiry, we are studying the importance of taking care of nature and ways to be part of a positive change of the Earth. During these weeks, children are investigating about how natural resources are being used by humans. They are becoming aware that the proper way of using resources is part of the solution to the environmental problems the planet is going through.

Kids have realized that every single action we take can change nature negatively or positively. We all can help our planet if we start from our homes by doing little things which can make a difference.

The PYP 2s are busy learning about: all about myself, my body, clothes and colours.  We made paper dolls and two outfits to play with and talk about.
The PYP 3s have been learning about animals: pets, farm animals and wild animals.  Some students made a farm (Scott made beautiful stables for the horses) while others made cosy beds for the pets.
